Undergraduate / 'my lazy educational past' - USF Appeal for reconsideration [2]
Dear USF Faculty Committee:
My name is Olivia Goodin, a current high school senior at Gibbs High School, and I am writing a letter of appeal to reconsider the current status of my admission.
As most appealing applicants understand, I have already started applying for other universities since the percentage of reconsideration are small. The University of South Florida, however, has always been and will continue to be my top and first choice for college, and unlike most applicants, I submitted my application hoping that I would be the first in my family of eight to continue my studies in college. My mom dropped out of high school, my dad claimed legal citizenship just under twenty-two years ago, and my older sister is a professional couch surfer. There has never been a mentor for me to stress exactly how important school is. I never completely grasped that every little choice that I make in school will effect every little thing choice I have in the future. I found a spark in journalism and after learning that USF has one of the best journalism programs in the city, I immediately toured and knew that I absolutely had to study at this college. Never has a campus drew me in and compelled me to do so much greater than I already am shooting for, and after two months of the application process, with a combination of nerves, anxiety, and excitement, I was greatly devastated to read the rejection letter to my family.
For the last seven years I have been enrolled in a middle school and high school that are completely focused on the arts. Instead of electives, I have four classes that were devoted to performance theatre and drama, so being constantly surrounded by performances and volunteering to showcase plays, having a great GPA was always in the dimmer light, and I write that with the biggest pang of regret. After learning that I could possibly not get accepted into college from procrastinated and having my priorities backwards, I completely dedicated the last semester of my junior year and my senior year to studying and raising my GPA. I started junior year with a 2.4 and ended the first semester of my senior year with a cumulative 3.5, raising my GPA an entire point. I have a job, I frequently volunteer with Publix, I have managed a minimum 3.5 GPA for the last year, and I have the desire to pursue an excellent education.
Though my lazy educational past doesn't hold any evidence towards my motivation and determination, I have full intentions of graduating with all of my credits, an exceptional GPA, and furthering my education by studying at one of the best journalism programs in the city- the University of South Florida. I would like to ask you to reconsider my application and thank you for you time. I have attached my transcripts and letters of recommendation.
