Undergraduate / 'Growing up in Nigeria' - MD professional goal esay [2]
Hi I need to write a professional goal essay and i am lost, any help will appreciated. I started but i dont know where to go from here.
As a young girl, growing up in one of the developing countries, Nigeria, has given me the opportunity to different diseases and infection and how important science is. Seeing people suffering from the most common sickness, malaria, to the least researched infection, cancer; has instilled in me a passion to go into research. It gave me the urge to be a medical doctor, and all my life in Nigeria, I have worked towards that goal. In getting to the United States few years back, I had two important experiences in the laboratory at the Johns Hopkins University that made the path to my career a little clearer. In 2009, I interned at the School of Public Health studying the relationship between executive functioning and sexual risk behavior among African Americans in Baltimore City. And the following year, I was at the School of Medicine, where I looked into the chronic and acute depression on wild type and mutant mice using ECT and imipramine as treatment.
These two experiences made me realize that being a medical doctor does not and will not help solve the health-related problems we are facing but research can. The search for new medicine and their success is what keeps the hospitals running. Therefore in the next 10years, I have set out to get my MD/PhD in order to accomplish my dreams. I have the hope to return to the continent Africa, to help the people and help shed light to world of medicine. I want the MD in order to see patients at a cheaper rate and the PhD in order to engage in meaningful research that could help science grow to meet the new standard and challenges.
Please help me with any suggestion. thank you
