Writing Feedback / Essay on your reading proccess [2]
what do you read and where do you read it? how long do you read? how much do you remember? do you skim? deep read? do you read all text at the same rate, what is your reading rate, and is it fast enough? what have you done, or plan, to do to increase your reading- for both rate and comprehension? What do you do successfully retain the information that you have just read. what works in the opposite way? You want to use this as your entry into analyzing as you read
My reading process
The literature I read is mainly non- fictional, and educational. Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer and Eat, Pray and Love by Elizabeth Gilbert are among the non-fictional books I have read. Reading in my room and reading while traveling to the city is usually where I read. I try to set aside one hour each day
for reading. When I read I retain approximately eighty percent of the content. I lose approximately twenty percent of the content. If I am not totally engaged in the material I lose content. My rate of reading is faster when the text captivates me. When the content of the book is less interesting, I become distracted and I sometimes have to go back and reread the material. My rate of reading becomes slower because of this regression. I can read ten pages in thirty minutes, but reading at this rate does not guarantee a hundred percent retention. Twenty percent is lost when I become distracted. I plan on reading more everyday to improve my reading skills. My goal is to read two hours everyday. I hope this will increase both my comprehension and rate. If I read in a quieter place, for example, in the library, perhaps this will increase my rate of reading and comprehension. To successfully retain the information, I think about what I'm reading and what I am going to learn. Establishing a purpose for reading will motivate me to read more and help me to retain more information. When I read for recreation I seem to find more time to read. When I study read the rate of reading is different from recreational reading, since study reading requires deep reading. I plan on increasing my reading time to two hours every day. I will set aside one hour for recreational reading and one hour for study reading each day. Hopefully I can reduce regression and increase concentration. Reading in a quieter location, establishing a purpose and deciding how fast and how much I should read each day will help me to increase both comprehension and rate of reading.
