Undergraduate / My Spelman Essay for the Peds program, for nontraditional students.. [3]

This is my essay for Spelman's peds program..I know it's really messy I need to clean it up. I just want some feeback..

"It doesn't matter how slowly you go-so long as you do not stop."-Confucius

In the words of soulful poets, it has been a long time coming. I haven't always been in been in the state of mind I am in today. School was the last in mind. Being self destructive was in my normality. With the little time I have been on this earth, it felt like an eternity of battleship. From dropping out of high school, to having a learning disability, the two were integral to destiny's plan. When life gives you lemons, you must make limeade.

Finding what it was that gave me earthly joy was almost impossible, but by the grace of God I have found my motivation along with my purpose in life. When I could not help myself, I found it gratifying to serve others. Being unselfish I dedicated myself to my work as a mental health worker. Giving service to others, lending a hand, one they were not equipped with. I learned to combine my unsuccessful hardships with a new passion, and from there I knew this was the road I must take in order to find myself.

My first reason for continuing my education is to better serve my community. Be the role model for my fellow lady, in which I've never had. Legitimately prepare myself for the world before me. It's important for me to finish educating myself in order to prosper beyond my means. Set examples, and lead by experience. With an education I can showcase a value system that I will have laid by hand. Most importantly, I believe school shapes and reform the individual, helping to find growth and inner peace. During my continuation, I will wear my spiritual cloak, for only God is the reason I have gotten this far in my journey. To many I am nowhere near the finish line, but by all means I am every bit of being close to crossing the finish line. The perseverance I have prayed for has led me astray from previous paths, and by the grace of God I am where he needs me to be. With every rising of the sun I have to remember that polishing myself, and refining who I am is not only for self but it is for my shadow's sake, when I cannot see what is happening behind me, my shadow will tell a story. Furthering an education will be for the better of the women in my family. I will be adding history to my genealogy.

To experience the jovial presence of being on campus. The rarefied atmosphere of a scholarly symposium put's me at ease. Knowing I am amongst a sisterhood is serene. I choose to continuate as a Spelman Ped, for the groundwork that has been systematized. To be educated by world class Black women and men means more to me than anything. To be immersed in such an institution is overall rewarding.
