I feel like this is a great essay. I would go into specific details, but I feel that you're not very on topic with your essay. You don't seem to connect the world you come from with your hopes and aspirations, so you might need to do a bit of quick rewriting.

I like how your essay includes a touching personal anecdote, but I feel it would be a better essay for the what you want to study essay instead of this prompt. I feel like this prompt could be better answered with something that talks a bit more about why you want to go to rice.
