Undergraduate / NYU SUPPLEMENT - What Intrigues You - Art of War Sun Tzu [3]
Art of War by Sun Tzu is a military strategist book that ultimately instilled in me a passion to venture into the world of the unknown and try to predict the unpredictable. Living my entire life as a "military brat" I came to realize that The Art Of War relates to leadership in ways that are both direct and indirect.
Sun does not directly address preparedness, an essential leadership quality, but every chapter communicates the necessity of knowing your enemy, knowing yourself, knowing your surrounding and being able to adapt to any situation. I knew that this book related directly to my life as soon as I finished because after living in four different countries after only seventeen years of life, I have truly learned the nature of adaptation. I believe that I have learned to want to be a peacemaker and venture to different countries confident of my abilities to be prepared for the worst yet come out with the best.
Sun states "Therefore one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the most skillful. Seizing the enemy without fighting is the most skillful" asserting that winning before fighting is the best way to approach life tying directly into my want to be a peacemaker and hopefully an ambassador. I have first handedly witnessed the poverty in china and mexico and know that it comes from the disordanace in these countries. Fighting among friends, citizens, and governments are what have ultimately brought these countries down.
Not finished, but not sure of what else to add or correct.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
