Undergraduate / Meaningful Coincidences, Steve Jobs Connecting the Dot NUS Essay [3]
Hi all! Thank you for taking your time to read this post. It is my first draft and it seems that there is something missing. Please be critical in your comments. Grammar, awakwardness in sentence structure, ideas, everything. My english is not perfect, I have lots to learn. Thank you again for helping me out!
Here is the question: You may discuss a personal experience or an activity that you have been involved that is relevant to the course you are applying for admission.
Steve Jobs once said, "You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future."
Now looking backwards, my dots did connect.
My first meaningful coincidence was an incidental encounter with a self-help book that sparked my passion. It was my first love contact with psychology. Though it might seem that it was a life-changing moment. It was not. I was not aware of it back then, but it did definitely marked a new hunger for knowledge which fuelled my passion further.
My second meaningful coincidence was admitting into Integrated Facility Management. The course I thought I would be interested in. The studies of managing a building costs and energy interest me none. Thankfully I am, that I entered the diploma. My need to find my passion was amplified. I searched for what I want ferociously. I became vulnerable, read up more, taking on new cross-disciplinary modules. Fortunately, I applied for "Leadership and Character." Subsequently, my life took on a whole new meaning. I was unstoppable. I read the book with great enthusiasm and energy. It was the first time I felt I could have continue reading without ever getting tired of it. I love studies on human potential.
My third meaningful coincidence was after my overseas work attachment in the States. There were even more areas of life I want to avoid pursuing. I searched even harder until I found my desired job: Industrial-Organisational Psychology. It was the "eureka" moment. It encompasses everything that I am truly interested: leadership, motivation, high interaction with people.
Through these series of events, it had unfolded my passion for psychology, hunger for knowledge, and pinpointed a single interest that will add texture and meaning to my life. Nothing will be possible unless action is taken and I believe it will begin with Psychology in National University of Singapore.
