Undergraduate / ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE; Exchange Student to UK Bachelor; U Glasfow (PS) [NEW]
Hello everybody,
I am Julio from Mexico city, I have applied to an exchange program in University of Glasgow in UK, they require me to write a personal statement in order to being considered, here it is what I have written so far, could you kindly indicate me what you think, I thank you in advance:
University of Glasgow
I chose University of Glasgow for my international exchange because it has a reputation for academic excellence both locally and internationally, also I consider it as one of the leading universities in the United Kingdom mainly due to the importance they give to the research component, I believe that courses are enhanced by this approach, because it works as a complement to the theory and to the knowledge acquired in the classroom and it establishes links between the industrial and business sector and the university.
As of this moment I am undergoing the 8th semester of my bachelor's degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering here in Mexico city at ITESM with a cumulative grade average of 85/100, I lived in an apartment by myself for the first two years of my bachelor since my home was pretty far from the university, so I am accustomed to dealing with many responsibilities besides my courses.
Personally I am very interested in the renewable energy sector, because I believe that energy sufficiency is will be one of the major issues we will face in the next decades, therefore I would like to observe, experience and learn how the university and the industry in Glasgow and all over Scotland approaches this energy challenge.
On the other hand I also feel very attracted to the different clubs and societies, especially in the sports clubs such as triathlon club; likewise I am interested in knowing more about the groups of engineers and scientists and the engineering society. Because by meeting international students I can discover ideas and new ways of approaching problems. I have always found that the participation in extra curricular activities acts as a complement and gives the student a complete formation.
Furthermore two goals I have set to myself are to fully master the language and to confront myself with a different culture and environment. I have read that Glasgow is one of the friendliest cities in UK; it has many galleries, free museums and is known for being a delightful shopping center.
Finally I am confident that I could benefit from this program and contribute to my country with the knowledge and experience that I gained.
