Writing Feedback / Will modern technology, such as the internet ever replace the book as the main source [3]

Write an essay on the following topic: "Will modern technology, such as the internet ever replace the book or the written word as the main source of information?"

You should write at least 250 words.
You should spend about 40 minutes on this essay.

Nowadays, if you don't want to sit somewhere alone and mumble to yourself, you must have good knowledge to keep conversations going. In order to know more, you have to read and analyse more information. In today's world, there are 2 main sources of information: books and the internet, which is developing at a fast pace. This creates an arguable question: "Will the internet become the main source of information and books become extinct in future?"

For ages, books were adored as huge amount of information. However, they are being replaced by their electronic "copies" which affect health problems as red-eyes and vision issues. Secondly, according to lectures of Howard Berg, who is the world's fastest reader, and to Spreeder website, e-books reduce the reading speed of readers to 25%, which makes them to sit in front of the monitor more and cause more health problems. Another good side of the real book is that you do not depend on the battery of electricity.

On the other hand, real books are made of woods, which cause reducing of forests in the world and make the ecology worse. Moreover, real books take more place in your bag and, also, its quality goes down because of the usage, but e-books are compact and don't change after several usages. Thirdly, electronic information in the Internet is more and faster approachable than the real sources. For instance, one can google any specific information in seconds, rather than searching books in libraries and then scanning for the required information. Furthermore, more information can be found in the Internet, which would probably never be found as a book, or in a book.

To conclude with, I would like to say that (Is it OK to begin conclusion like this? I usually begin so) books are valuable sources of information, but I believe that some day the Internet will absorb all the knowledge in al books and become the crucial source of know-how.

Essays / What makes a better essay? / Need Advice [5]

There are good books which teach that. For instance,
Barron's "How to prepare for the TOEFL Essay" book
Ace the TOEFL Essay
One of the greatest books is "The elements of Style" by William Strunk and E. B. White

You can download them for free on the Internet, but it gonna take a bit time to find a free downloadable pdf file.

Also, remember, you can't master writing only with reading... So, you need to practice a lot, and ask someone to check your writings.

Student Talk / How to improve in explaining lecture [2]

There is a theory of Multiple intelligences, which was proposed by Howard Gardner in his 1983 book Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences, it explains that people absorb information in different kind of ways. Your professor can improve efficiency and rise the interest of student by explaining the topic using several intelligences. You can find more about it on wikipedia.

Remember that topic will seem boring, only in two cases: first, if you don't understand it (more common) and second, if you already know it.

Writing Feedback / SAT: What motivates people to change something in their life?! (I wrote in 25 minutes) [3]

The word "change" makes many people nervous, anxious, and full of fear. Why we fear the changes? What does stop and motivate us to do any change? I am more conservative person, but in some fields of life I do lots of changes. In nowaday's globalized world, we need to accept some changes in order to survive and grow our potentials.

Most people are afraid of changes, so do I. This fear comes from facing unknown conditions. The psychology of any beings makes them fear of unknown things. This works for saving creatures' lives since they were born, because unknown things can be dangerous. So, to overcome the fear we need to know "the unknown things" better. For instance, I am not used to change the order of my books in my book shelf, I am afraid of doing so, because I think it will take me more time to search books by their new order. However, after sorting lots of "unnecessary" books and leaving only the needed ones and putting them in order of common usage, I feel more comfortable. So, after many nervous attempts I change something in my life. But the question is "what does motivate me of doing so?"

I usually change something only if it is necessary. I get my motivation form lots of things: comfort, wealth, self-esteem, and success. Everyone has their own definitions of motivation and success. People usually accept changes to feel more comfortable, wealthy, successful or increasing their self-esteem. For example, in early ages, people in America voted to make the taxes compulsory for everyone. The reason of this voting was that poor and middle-class people believed that rich people will pay more taxes and the money that was paid will improve lives of all America's citizens. This is called Robin Hood Theory.

PLEASE SCORE IT as it is scored in SAT. This is my first 25-minute-essay, It was REALLY hard to write something in 25 minutes!!! In past it took me around 40 minutes to write and polish up the essay! So, please give me some advice...after scoring it. =)

Writing Feedback / SAT: What motivates people to change something in their life?! (I wrote in 25 minutes) [3]

Another essay from my friend, which is written in 25 minutes...

As we know the world always changes and likewise people usually change their opinions. Because they want to achieve more and always try to create a good opportunity for themselves.

At most times changes give us better conditions. For example, when I was fourth class student, I decided to change my school. Because my old school in that time was not able to teach as I wanted. That's why I continued my education at another better school. Of course this change was not easy for me. I lose some of my friends and teachers who said that I must not change my school. But I thought that this change helped me for my future by receiving many opportunities. After I began study at new school at first time it seemed difficult to me. But I finished my new school, I was completely sure that this change was good for me. Because I became more educated than my old friends and entered to the best lyceum in my country because of my new school's education.

Another important point is today the world is changing year-by-year. This motivate people to change. We change our accommodations, our facilities, our job according to civilization. So, if we don't want to change, we may become out of developed world.

Moreover, one Uzbek scientist once said that people who don't afraid of the biggest changes are more closer to the goal than people who don't like changes.

To sum up, usually changes give us many good opportunities. We must not afraid of changes. We must always do things that we think are true. If we do so our life will become easier.
