Dear Sir or Madame:
With this letter I hereby wish to apply for a scholarship of the XXX WinterXXX I 2014, published on XX August, 20XX.
I am XXX XXX XXXXX, I am nineteen years old (I am about twenty). I hold a five-year bachelor's degree in Foreign Languages at Universidad del Valle, which is a public institution and the third best Colombian university in the U-Sapiens Ranking in 2011. I was born in Cali, Colombia and I also have lived here. Since I was a little girl, my grand-mother has always taken care about me. Now, I help her working in the University student employment fund with a part-time job; I work in the Industrial Engineer School as an administrative assistant. In addition, I have also worked as a volunteer in a couple of very important events held in the city. Those are the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup Colombia; in that case, I was a translator and general assistant and I worked with the chief executive officer (CEO) in Cali venue. The other event was the recent World Games 2013 Cali, in this opportunity I was part of the Social Protocol Committee and I was in charge of different VIP rooms, which meant being in contact with many foreigners.
During my studies I have been a good student. I won two excellence medals in elementary school and I gained two consecutive scholarships in high school. Then, I managed to be admitted to the university just after completing high school. Right now, I am attending the 3rd year of my degree and I really want to have an academic experience abroad before I finish my studies. It would give me a wider vision about the world in which we live and the variety of cultures we can explore. I have always wanted to study overseas, not because I consider that my country is not able to offer good options to learn, it is just because given my inclination towards the languages field, I think the best practical experience should be in a foreign speaking country; and besides I
The Foreign Languages syllabus is divided in four main sections, which are the linguistic foundations, pedagogy, investigation and the languages component (English and French). So the acquisition of a third foreign language (German) would be a perfect complement to my professional formation, in terms of extension of my abilities. Another point to take into a count is that the achievement of the scholarship offered by you would be a potential opportunity for me to be considered in the current world as a good option to work with or it could give me an advantage over my peers at the time to aim for a postgraduate studies scholarship. But it is also an opportunity for the German students and people who are interested in learning Spanish to share and to interact with someone who is going to be glad to do it, that is me.
I really appreciate you to consider my application.
Best regards.
