Undergraduate / 'pursue knowledge, not a job' - Why Brown? [7]
Brown, because I wish to pursue knowledge, not a job. Because I want to develop practical skills, but use them to establish independence and direct my destiny outside the model of a predictable career path. Because, at the same time, I desire to learn about fascinating and obscure subjects that may not be considered "practical," but that feed my intellectual curiosity and distinguish me as an individual. Because, I want to challenge myself to take risks, to learn and develop outside my comfort zone, and, to pursue greatness so that I have the power to inspire and to move, to empower and instill hope in the world around me. But mostly, Brown, because I wish to do all these things in a community of passionate, intelligent, and open minded people with whom I can collaborate, inspire, and draw inspiration from that will drive me to achieve my full potential.

Because I challenge myself to take risks, to innovate, to establish my identity outside of the environment I have always known. But mostly, Brown, because I want to build a platform to inspire others like me, twelve and thirteen-year-olds who, in their spare time, read Salinger, Kundera, and Nabokov for hours on end or sit alone in a coffee shop observing the stories of strangers unfold around them, assigning histories and imagining conversations. Because I want them to hear my voice and possess the confidence in themselves that I lacked for so long, to know that when their classmates are applying to state and city colleges, they will be applying to Brown, where they will have the opportunity to find acceptance and reach their full potential in a community of passionate, intelligent, and open minded people around whom they will thrive.
