Graduate / What do you want to be when you grow up?; PA Narrative [2]

Throughout your adolescence the most common question you're asked is, what do you want to be when you grow up? To me I always knew that I wanted to be part of the medical field but finding what field was the tougher question. After hearing about the physician assistant program and learning what it was all about, I immediately wanted to know everything about it. One of the most important factors that influenced me in pursuing a career as a physician assistant is the connection that PA's have with their patients. I believe that in treating patients it should not only be about the disease but also about the person behind the disease. Throughout my years in college I have interacted with all kinds of patients at my job especially children. Working with patients that are born with deformities such as clef lip and clef palet has made me quite interested in that field. During my undergraduate career at Molloy College I have pursued a minor in the Spanish language in order to excel in Spanish in order to one day fulfill a dream to visit a third world nation and help children that are born with facial deformities. As a PA I hope to be able to work with children not only here in the United States but also in places that healthcare services are not readily available.
