Each morning instead of hearing the loud jarring sound of an alarm clock, I'm awakened by Natasha Bedingfield's "Pocketful of Sunshine". In a tumultuous world of a teenager, the lyrics in this song help me feel confident and self assured ready to start a new day. If I were to introduce myself with a theme song, this is the one I would choose. The two lines in the chorus I relate to the most are "The sun is on my side take me for a ride; and I smile up to the sky I know I'll be alright." This best describes how I try to face each day. No matter how convoluted the day becomes I know that I have that pocketful of sunshine with me. Whether it is an important test, high school drama among my peers, or the job I go to after school. It is a constant reminder that I can overcome any obstacle that should occur that day.
As I am sitting in the classroom, nervously waiting for the teacher to hand out a test I am about to take, the words from my theme song play through my head. Knowing I studied and feel prepared; I am confident that I will do my best ... I'll be alright. When my test is returned, my confidence is confirmed and I smile up to the sky.
Peer relationships formed in high school can be the ones you will cherish or the ones you choose to release. The friendships that were once treasured may result in a pain that lingers until new friendships replace the old. Night turns to day ... the sun is on my side.
Working part-time has presented its own challenges. The one thing I try to remember when faced with a new customer at the register is to always smile. No one is perfect, when I make mistakes I know to own up to them and learn from them. My co-workers are my second
family; they are people I enjoy seeing every time I work. I smile up to the sky knowing that I am lucky to have these people in my life.
Everyone has their own individual theme song. It's a melody used as a signature. My personal theme song "Pocketful of Sunshine" is the song you will catch me singing in the shower, or catch me humming when I need a reminder that "The sun is on my side take me for a ride; I smile up to the sky and I know I'll be alright."
