Graduate / Background in Chemistry and business related work experience;SOP of innovation management [NEW]
I entered into one of China's best normal universities at age 15 and then joined the country's topmost research graduate school. Afterwards, I cofounded a primary school. Now I would like to pursue a Master's Degree in innovation management of ** University in the fall of 2014.
During my academic years, I obtained a solid academic background in chemistry. I had completed a total of 50 undergraduate courses in ** University (GPA: 87.3/100) and 16 graduate courses in ** University (GPA: 88.1/100), including chemistry, engineering, statistics, psychology and pedagogy as well. Besides, I had conducted 3 years' research on semiconductor nanomaterials. By using a mild one-step temple-free solvothermal method, I synthesized jingle-bell-shaped In2O3/C hollow nanospheres and proposed a possible formation mechanism based on time-dependent experiments. I had gain experience on researching scientific literature, designing experiments, result analysis with various advanced equipments, academic writing etc.
Apart from my study, I had joined various extracurricular activities. During my master study, I was elected the Vice President of the university's Graduate Union. One of the most important event that I had organized is called '*****' . This annual event attracts more than 5,000 students from 6 universities in ** city. Due to my excellent leadership skills and achievements, I won the award of "Outstanding student leader of ** Province". Among more than 17,000 students in my university, the prize is awarded to only 6 students per year.
I gradually realized that I had more passion for business career compared with scientific research. After my graduation, I cofounded a private primary school with my business partner. And had been Headmaster for 3 years from the beginning of the school. During this period, I was in charge of the general management of the school. In this very challenging role, I have learned how to persuade the parents to choose our school, how to monitor the performance of staff, how to deal with emergency conditions, how to optimized the usage of limited funding. I had lead a team of 19 employees including teaching staff and supporting crew. So far, there are already more than 600 students had chosen our school. I am very proud of the achievement of my work as the Headmaser.
However, I understand the difference between managing a small school and managing a big company. I hope to gain the knowledge of business management and the experience of working in a large company. Upon graduation, I would like to work as a strategy consultant for a consulting company or a new product development manager for a high-tech company, using my knowledge in both chemistry and management to build bridges between R&D departments and markets.
I choose this Master's program out of two reasons. For one thing, I am still very interested in Chemistry but just prefer to apply the knowledge to create values instead of doing research in the lab. 6 years ago. I was invited to join a group of 15 PhD students who were from different subjects to visit high-tech companies in ** province. The goal of the trip is to help the students to find the connection between industry and their research. When we were visiting a biomedicine company, the CTO told me that they need a special nanomaterial for their product. If this material can be produced, they will generate a great deal of profit. I couldn't provide that technology was deeply impressed by the value of converting research results to products. For another, I had enjoyed a lot during my extracurricum activities and work experience such as managing a project, communicating with different departments, recruiting people etc. This program provide the opportunity to connect my scientific background with business practices.
I am very interested in ** University because it is one of the best university in the world and also because of two specific reasons. Firstly, ** allows me to choose the most suitable research direction from a wide list of research groups. I think this could allow me to combine my background best with the opportunities. Secondly, the young leader league is very interesting to me, especially the coaching for personal development, because personal capabilities are very essential to career success.
My education background in Chemistry and business related work experience have formed a good basis for my pursuit of this study. And I have strong interest in the innovation management program of ** University. Please consider my application.
