Undergraduate / UC PROMPT # 2 How the homelessness in Los Angeles has inspired me to study Sociology [3]
The extremes of Los Angles provide my world with a new intake on life. I grew up seeing extreme wealth on the west side but now being older and able to travel a couple of miles south, I see extreme poverty. The community I have grown up in has a fine line between classes, but thankfully I am in the middle of it. My world has been inspired by both aspects in my community, the rewards of hard work on the west, but also the needs in the south. Being open to recognizing the needs of others has made me a caring person and has influenced my world most. Every step I take I see those in need, but now being older, I see college as an opportunity to embark on new steps in life and being one step closer of a hero. I've longed to become a social worker to help all my neighbors get back on their feet, and become a part of the community that is shined on.
