Scholarship / NTU ESSAY SCHOLARSHIP, -BREAKAWAY MY COCOON [NEW]

One of the big choices I made was choosing my senior high school; A brand-new school that located far away from my city. I chose that school because they had international quality, great teachers, a dormitory, and it always had been my dream to study far away from home. I remembered my target: I need to make a change. I don't want to have standard personalities just like the others. I need to go up one-level more, every time I have the chance. I'd love to experience new challenges. Some says, "Life begins at the end of your comfort zone". For those reasons, in order to fly, I have to be brave to break my cocoon.

In this boarding school, I started my dreams. I joined Biology Olympiad group and ISPO (Indonesian Science Project Olympiad) competition. I made a project studying the potency of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis as a new antifungal for Candida albicans and Trycophyton rubrum. In my fresh year, I learned a lot about how to deal with research, report, presentations and etc. But, the most important is : how to be dicipline and manage time well. It was exam-week, when I had to work on ISPO. I needed to finish my research before the deadline besides, I had to studyhard for my exams. When others were sleeping, I worked until 2 p.m on my laptop. I woke up early to review for exam. My fatigue seemed burned up with my courage.

On the day of competition, I worked hardly than ever. I did my presentation as good as I can. I answer the questions from the juries thoroughly and clearly based on the materials I was studying. I believe God would give the best result for the best-effort I could give.

When the announcement day came, I was announced as the Bronze-Medal winner! I stood there on the stage, holding the first medal of my school. I immediately said thanks to God. He let me be the proof of His mercy. A proof that we can reach our dreams when we bravely make them come true.

For the same reasons, I apply for NTU; the goal I have for fighting for. I would like to give my best effort to be contributed to NTU community.

Undergraduate / APPLYING IN TURKISH UNIVERSITIES, why should I choose turkey? [3]

Hello :) I'm planning to apply in Turkish University and got this prompt :

Please explain your expectations from studying in Turkey and express your future plans [/i][/i]

I had written the answer. Would you mind editing it? English is not my native so it will be very helpful for me if you correct some grammatical errors and unnecessary words.

Thankyou :)

It has been a dream of mine to study abroad. A student from a developing country where education systems are not that advanced; prefer to go abroad for progressive studies. I am so motivated to continue my study in Turkey.

By studying in Turkey, I get opportunity to experience studying in a better and modern educational system than my country. I realized the source of knowledge is from all over the world. To master a science, we must explore for more new information. I need to see from different perspective, emphasize skill in global environment, and to search for new knowledge I couldn't find in my hometown. Turkey which located in both Asia and Europe and being the most historical and cultural country has a role as a portal of global education. The degrees granted by Turkish Universities are recognized around the world and it would be significant to my future career and enlarge my jobs opportunities. In addition, my country and Turkey has good relations. So if I should choose a country to study, Turkey is the right choice.

Besides, I can also increase my abilities to speak Turkish for foreign language and that will be beneficial for me. Turkey has different culture from my country and that would lead me to learn how to be adaptable in a new environment. It would also build my independence and confidence.

I'm sure Turkey is the most ideal country to study regards to its modernity, education, culture, and good-environment. By studying in Turkey, I get opportunity to experience studying in a better and modern educational system than my country. I can also increase my abilities to speak Turkish for foreign language and that will be beneficial for me. Studying foreign language will be more effective and efficient by use it every day in an environment which use that language. Turkey also has a lot of different culture since it is located on two different continents: Asia-Europe and also different culture: western and eastern, and so Turkey becomes the most ideal country to study cultures. This multicultural environment give me various type of colleagues and would build me to be a person with good toleration and high sociality; which are the skills I need for a global world.

I'm always fascinated by culture in Turkey especially in Islam's heritages like Haiga Sophia, Al Hambra Palace, Blue Mosque, and etc. It would be a pleasure for me to learn about such amazing culture. In addition, 31% Turkey's population are between the ages of 12-24, it means there are a lot of students and it give me warm and friendly environment to study. Meanwhile, tuition and cost of living are lower than in most European countries and the U.S.

Please express the reasons for your department/program of study preferences and briefly explain how your educational background relates to your preferences

I choose Molecular and Biology Department because that program of study is always attractive to study. Biology is a study about life, cells, our body organs, metabolisms, living things, and also our environment. Every subject in biology is really close to us-even around us, and that challenged me to study it more. Nowadays, molecular has been a really significant subject in Biology. We study antibiotics, genetics, biotechnology, stem cells, foods, diseases with the basic of molecular. In the future, I should be able to develop antibiotics, medicines, or any bio-products that would really beneficial for people to help curing diseases. I could develop a new food source and technologies in agriculture.
