Undergraduate / NYU Supplement " I have an insatiable desire to improve." [2]

NYU's global network of campuses, schools, colleges, and programs, provides an unrivaled urban university experience to cultivate our students' intellectual curiosity and to help them achieve their future career goals.

In evaluating your candidacy for admission, we are interested in making the best match possible with all that NYU has to offer. As a result, we are curious to learn about your academic and personal interests and how those interests relate to what we offer in the idea capitals of the world in which NYU campuses are located.

Please address, in your essay response, the following:

1. Given your NYU campuses of interest - whether they are your primary and alternate home campuses of interest or where you would like to study away while you are a student - where, exactly, would you like to study at NYU - and why?

2. Whether you are undecided or you have a definitive plan of study in mind, what are your academic interests and how do you plan to explore them at NYU?

You may have one or many campuses, schools, colleges, programs, and/or areas of interest, so please elaborate on your interests.

This past summer, I managed my first business: Fast Track Yard Sales, a service based on managing a yard sale for clients. Starting off as a simple salesmen, my only job was to price items and watch out for shoplifters. As I made more sales, I was offered a managerial position so that the owner would have someone running the business while he was in college. In this role, I learned about the intricacies and legalities of running an establishment as well as the different ways salesmen could sell items to customers. With a front row seat and backstage pass to the world of business management, I was able to experiment and discover a new way to see the business world.

I was like a kid and his video game. I felt immense joy in manipulating variables and analyzing the results that would come about. This little taste ignited my passion for the subject that runs the world, economics. For instance, the idea of having a point of profit maximization, where one's losses are minimized and gains maximized, can be applied to all facets of life. Succeeding in college can be found by striking the appropriate balance between your marginal cost, the time spent studying, and your marginal revenue, your happiness level on receiving a good grade.

NYU Stern has everything I desire. I want to be taught Microeconomics by Professor John Asker, whose research on antitrust and bidding rings are essential to understanding modern day economics. I want to continue dancing in college, joining Pulse, the student run dance group at NYU where I hopefully will be able to teach some of my own choreography. Building upon my prior knowledge of business from Fast Track and improving my own dancing ability, I can think of no better than NYU where I can receive quality tutelage in both. I seek a comprehensive education, learning to apply theories to the real world inside of the classroom and learning the history of bip-hop outside on the streets. As the end of this schooling, I want to create my own business, something that will be remembered in the years to come as the model for the ideal corporation, something that will make a positive impact on the world.

Just like my experience with Fast Track, I need to start small before I can make an impact. I have an insatiable desire to improve. The phrase "Close, but not quite," creates an intellectual void inside of me that I need to fill. I've learned that accepting frustration as a part of the problem solving process makes the moments of clarity amidst the tumultuous sea of confusion more rewarding. On the shoulders of giants with my peers, I want to create new standards and theories that will stand the test of time. I want to quench my thirst for knowledge at a university that will provide me the tools to be a giant myself so that I may offer my shoulders to the next revolutionary.
