Graduate / "Surgical Diathermy Unit"; Sop for PHD - Biomedical Engineering [3]
Statement of Purpose
I'm interested in working as a PhD scholar in [university name] in Electrical Engineering Department.
Since my childhood, I was fascinated by various diagnostic imaging instruments which images organs and blood vessels which are invisible from outside. This fascination motivated me to take up Biomedical Engineering.
After my schooling, I've cleared State Entrance Examination and got admission in [college name] (affiliated to [university name]). After my Bachelor's degree I'd worked in a hospital equipments servicing company. Then I had cleared Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering and secured rank 361(among top 2%) and got admission for Master's in Biomedical Engineering in [university name]. After my Master's, I had been teaching Linear Integrated Circuits, Digital Image Processing, Embedded systems, Engineering Mathematics and Digital communication in [institution name].
In the four years of my graduation, I acquired strong foundation in multifarious subjects of Engineering. Using the technical knowledge and skills, I had imbibed; I helped in developing a "Surgical Diathermy Unit" during the penultimate year of my graduate course. Later in the final year, I was a part of a team which had designed and implemented "working model of a knee joint", which received its driving signal from the EMG of the femoral muscles.
In the first year of my Master's, I was exposed to advanced concepts of engineering through various interdisciplinary subjects like Design of Intelligent Systems, Computer Applications in Biomedical Engineering, etc., In final year, I had worked with a PhD scholar in [medical college name]. As a part of my dissertation, I had designed and implemented "[tite of dissertation". Using my instrument, we had assessed changes in muscular loading in arthritis patients, normal subjects and in patients who uses knee braces and knee sleeves.
The results of our clinical study have been published in "journal name". The second set of our results has been sent to "journal name". In designing the instrument setup, I had used strain gauge sensors, PIC18F4550 microcontroller, USB Interfacing and configured MATLAB to receive digital values from the inbuilt ADC of the PIC. Later these values were processed and plotted in MATLAB.
I've good understanding and work experience in microcontrollers, designing of sensor-based applications and various analog and digital circuits. I would like to work in designing and implementation of low cost medical instruments. In the research projects page of [university name], I saw numerous projects, which suits my research interests. I would like to be a part of one of those projects.
I've a strong grasp of fundamentals of Electronics Engineering, an aptitude for research and team work and an enthusiastic desire to learn all I can. Moreover, I have good command over English (I've cleared GRE and TOEFL).
I'm requesting admission to PhD program in Electrical Engineering Department. My previous research experience, academic discipline and personal qualities have prepared me for the expectation of this program. My primary aim behind this application is to educate myself to be an outstanding scientist in engineering and contribute towards the development of new devices. I believe that an admission in [university name] would help me to achieve my goal. I believe I have qualities of a good researcher and a good teacher. Finally, I believe that I can contribute to this your program through innovative ideas, publication and interdisciplinary research.
