Undergraduate / Describe why you would like to study in the US. Global Ugrad exchange program. [2]
Please describe why you would like to study in the US. What past experiences have given you this motivation? How will studying on the Global UGRAD program help you learn about America? How will learning about the U.S. influence your personal and professional goals for the future?
I have a dream - to study in USA. It will not be wrong if I say that studying in the U.S. - the dream of many people, including my own. Many people know America only through Hollywood movies, celebrities and parties, but I do not want to learn about America through a screen or others opinions. I want to learn about the USA by feeling, touching and smelling it on my own. I want to study in the United States because I am attracted to the possibilities and potential that I will get if I have a chance to study in the United States. I have two concrete goals - to study the law not only by the example of my own country, but by the example of another countries, in particular - America, and become part of the cultural exchange, during which I may be able to bring something new in the cultural, social and other relations of our countries. Also the practice of language, mastering new culture, new customs by me and comprehensive development attracts me the most. Another thing I've always wanted is to visit Boston, because there plays my favorite basketball team "Boston Celtics". Since my childhood I am a fan of Celtics and know its history from Bill Russel and Red Auerbach to Rajon Rondo and former "Big Trio" (I can `t believe that Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce now play in Brooklyn). General answer to the question "why I want to study in the U.S.?" - simple and complex at the same time, I want to achieve in life certain heights and want to realize as a person.
The main incentive to participate in this program was my beloved grandmother. Generally I believe that the success of all of my accomplishments is my grandmother, because she always convinced me that education and learning foreign languages - guarantee of a stable future. Having heard my desire to participate in Global UGRAD, many people said "you will not pass," but I don`t care about their opinion. I know what I go for, I know it's hard - but I'm not going to stop due to opinions of some " squealer" and "losers." I always like to be different from everyone, to have my own opinion. I'm sure you do not care, but if I am not selected for this program, maybe I'll be in deep despair, maybe I`ll have depression (I hope, after reading all this, you do not have the idea that I am mentally unstable teen,) but all this only makes people stronger, helps to understand their mistakes. I think it's okay to be disappointed in your own fails. I`m not afraid of mistakes, because we learn by our mistakes.
Also learning English was an incitement to participate in this program. In the process of learning any foreign language you also try to explore the culture, which undoubtedly pulls you together to it. Another important factor was perusal a lot of American literature, both modern and classic, from which I learned a lot about the history of America, about the situation of the people in certain periods, about The Civil War, about slavery, about the Great Depression, about "American dream "and many others.
One more reason is basketball. I'm not just a big basketball fan, but also a former professional player(Stopped playing because of Anterior cruciate ligament injury). And in America -there is the best basketball league in the world - NBA. Watching matches NBA, from my childhood I wanted to see up close all my favorite players and to play on the famous basketball courts of America.
And another reason for my desire to study in the U.S. is jazz. I like many styles of music, but I just love jazz. I've always been attracted to New Orleans - the homeland of jazz, its atmosphere and its music. By the way, I graduated music school and I play accordion and piano. Despite the fact that young people nowadays listen rock, rap, hip-hop, I like jazz, namely: Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Thelonious Monk, Ray Charles.
Generally any experience of international exchange is very important for a student, because seeing another country, they are expanding their horizons and learn something new from their future profession. My goal is to be a lawyer, who specializes in sports law. America - the largest "testing ground" for sports rights, because in the U.S. there are the most famous sports leagues in the world: NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, NCAA, and a lot of athletes. By participating in the Global UGRAD, I hope to study sports law and want to provide invaluable information that I can`t get here. I am sure that the acquired information will help me in the future to become a professional of my craft. Please do not think that the main purpose of my participation in the program - only the educational component. Cultural experience is also important for me. I'm interested in every area of culture: music, art, literature.
Do not consider for bragging, but by nature I am very stubborn and determined that sometimes prevents me. Aiming to anything, I try to make every effort to achieve it.(I hope I didn`t glamorized myself too much). The man who came to study abroad, do not gets into a fairy tale with pink clouds, but gets into tough and full of responsibility life where he has to learn and work hard to achieve something. I am sure that these difficulties will help me in the future to become even stronger. I have spent my life doing what parents have told me, for which I am very grateful to them, but never knew what I wanted for myself actually. And now I know - I want to reach, otherwise I just cease to respect myself. I know what I`m going for, and also know that this path is not easy, and I'm not going to stop or give up. I know that one little desire is not enough. To get anything I need I should work hard, because everything has its price, for which we pay.
