Writing Feedback / 'Unwanted pregnancy' - essay about abortion. [3]

I got 60% on it and I think its better then that
The reasons why I got a 60% was because of not picking a side and having mild grammar issues and only stating two points in my thesis, But i did stat all 3 in my thesis and stated what side of the argument I was on the teacher said I can hand it in again so I am just curious what you guys think I should do to adjust for a better mark~ Thanks

- Abortion is a safe medical option and a very good way to stop an unwanted pregnancy. Less than 1% of abortions done before 21 weeks of pregnancy end badly. There is a lot of controversy over the subject though; some people believe that abortions are unethical and others believe that women should have the right over their own bodies. A women should especially be allowed to end a pregnancy if there are signs that letting it continue will negatively affect the mother or the baby or if the mother decides she is not ready or financially unfit.

Over the past several years women have been fighting for equal rights: in the 1980s' women received a reproductive rights stating "The right to legal safe abortions, the right to control one's' reproductive functions". That basically means that you can not tell a woman what she can and can't do with her reproductive body. The mother-to-be might not be ready to make the big step-up to becoming a parent. She could be too young and not want to take on the responsibility, not to mention that pregnancy can cause a lot of stress for a person. If the mother is young or just in bad times, they also might not be in a good enough financial situation to handle the extra expense it requires to adequately support a child.

In some cases, a woman becomes pregnant as a result of rape. In cases like this having the child can be a continuous reminder to the mother of what she went through. That combined with PPD (postpartum depression) could make the mother highly mentally unstable and not able to cope, in varying degrees. This would be an unfavourable situation for both the mother and the baby.

The other side to this debate often says that you are killing the baby ot fetus, but if the outcome of the pregnancy is potentially detrimental to the woman or child she should have the choice between having an abortion or not. In some cases it is possible for a pregnancy, even with current technology, to kill the mother. The embryo might implant itself inside of the fallopian tube which can lead to uncontrollable bleeding , or the pregnancy could turn a chronic condition into something that could kill the mother.

Today, there are about 31 abortions for every live birth: that is 330,000 live births to 100,000 abortions every year. It should be the women's right to decide whether or not she wants to put herself through the mental and physical things that go along with pregnancy and motherhood. Some people just don't have the income or maturity to support a child and a family or their own life might be on the line. The woman should be able to decide best path for them and their babies.
