Graduate / SOP for MS in Software Engineering with work experience [3]

Right from my childhood, I was always curious to learn new things. I was first introduced to computers when I was in first grade and I still remember the first LOGO program that I wrote to make a square. I was always fascinated to know how the characters that we type on the keyboard were interpreted making the computer do interesting things. Throughout my schooling, I was most eager to attend my computer classes and was always the highest scorer in Computers in school. Eventually I was introduced to JAVA in class 7th .To further this interest, in class 11th I opted for Mathematics with Computer Science where I learnt C++ and basic concepts of Object Oriented Programming. I secured 90% marks in Computers in both class 10th and class 12th. The highly competitive environment in my school stimulated me intellectually, and made me participate in most of the computer science competitions viz : . In QUANTA (international annual school festival where I got my first global international exposure). As part of the organizing committee, I was responsible to take care of international participants' from more than 20 countries right from their arrival at the airport, till the time they left. I was also a part of the stage activities of the competition, organizing computer science quiz.

While I was still in school my brother was doing his undergraduate course in Computer Science. He used to give me challenging programming questions which I loved to solve. During one of the Parents-Teachers meeting, my Computer teacher asked me to opt for computer science seeing my potential in the subject; this strengthened my resolve to further take up Computer Science as my career choice. I cracked the Amity University entrance examination and the interview and was selected to pursue my Bachelors of Technology in Computer Science.

During Btech, I developed a keen interest in studying Data Structures, Algorithms, Enterprise Architecture, Theory of Automata and Computation, Networking and Computer Architecture. I also participated in various programming contests and won many of them as well. I always enjoyed the practical aspects of studying computers, and that is one of the reasons why my marks in practical examinations and projects averaged above 90%. My first minor project, during my first year of under graduation was on Google Wave on which I gave a presentation on the technology behind the open source real time communication platform and received appreciation from my professor. I was among the 2 students who were selected from my batch for an internship at HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited). Here I was part of the team that designed the technical specifications for their internal portal and also learnt how commercial software was developed. Even now, in my free time, to keep myself updated with the technological developments in my domain, I have been attending MOOCs (Massive Online Open Courses) on websites like Coursera, Edx, and Udacity.

During my final year project on Online Library Management System, a small -scale system built to manage a set of routine library functions I gained interest to further work on large enterprise software systems. Hence after completing my bachelor's degree in Computer Science, I joined Wipro Technologies, where I started working as a SAP SD consultant dealing with the logistics within the SAP R/3 system.

While working in Wipro Technologies, the first project that I was assigned to was Hospira. Soon after I started working, I realized that learning ABAP will make things much easier. So I learnt it myself and started looking into the work issues both from technical and functional perspective, which was greatly appreciated by my seniors.

The second project that I was assigned to while working in Wipro Technologies was Johnson and Johnson account. Here I was replacing a guy who was 2 years senior to me. So there was a big responsibility on me to fit into his shoes. Here too my techno functional skills played an important role and within 2 months after I started working in Johnson and Johnson, not only did I receive appreciation from the higher management for my performance(being the bottleneck in SD team), but was also appointed to lead a team of 3. I was responsible for carrying out each and every enhancement in the SAP SD tower. Major part of it was configurations and enhancements in the pricing procedures as per the business requirements. The project was based on an onshore-offshore operating model and it required me to interact closely with the client team In addition to my work responsibilities during this time, I also trained 2 juniors who just started their career to become comfortable with the project. I was also regularly involved in making monthly reports about the project deliverables, occupancy of each individual in the project (around 18 people in the entire project), calculating the per dollar value for each deliverable, etc. My next assignment was Celanese account in Infosys Limited, where I am currently working. Here I am working on enhancements and incidents to fix the issues.

This experience has been invaluable for me as I learned managing various real- world applications. I was exposed to latest applications of computer technologies in various sections. Working in large reputed companies like Wipro Technologies and Infosys Limited, broadened my understanding of various projects and helped me understand how diverse its developmental stages can be.

My undergraduate course in Computer Science and 3+ years of experience in the IT industry have exposed me to a stimulating technical environment. I understand that the space time trade off in computer science is similar to the trade-off between the time taken for technology to implement a solution to a problem and the monetary cost associated with it. I understand that knowing computer science is not just being able to write code in multiple languages, rather it's a discipline that spans theory and practice. Through the many opportunities, thus far I have developed a keen interest in research work and a strong aptitude for problem solving that it involves.

Currently, , I believe that to work in the research and development of enterprise systems, which is my short -term goal h I need to get a deeper understanding of the subject, which can be rightly gained through a a global Masters

I believe the University XXXX is an ideal place for me to pursue my Masters because of its world class infrastructure, presence of professors such as Prof. Dr.-Ing. Liggesmeyer, and the current projects going on in the Chair of Software Engineering like Automotive, Railway and Avionics Multicore systems(ARAMiS), the University's close collaboration with MPI-SWS Max Pllank Institute for Software Systems,FIG-IESE Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering makes it the best place for me to pursue my career in research, so that I can get in contact with some of the best research groups in the world.

I have been an active Alumni Mentor at my University and have taken many sessions with the Computer Science students. These sessions have mainly been about how the students can prepare themselves for the IT industry in India and what to expect after they start working. I have been assigned 35 students who I am constantly in touch for motoring.

I bring along work experience, a strong grasp of fundamentals in Computers, an aptitude for team work, a zest for challenges and an enthusiasm to learn all I can. I believe that I possess the motivation, intellectual ability and preparation to set out on this exhilarating and arduous path and to make significant original contributions to your on-going research work. I hope that my background and qualifications are found suitable for an MS in Computer Science at XXXX University.

Thank you very much ChristineB for your valuable feedback. I will make these changes. Apart from these, is everything okay with the later part of the essay?

Should I mention something else, or should I delete something ?
