What is your intended major? Discuss how your interest in the subject developed and describe any experience you have had in the field - such as volunteer work, internships and employment, participation in student organizations and activities - and what you have gained from your involvement
When I was a little boy, I often witnessed people who had anxious faces staring into a screen because their computers crashed again. " If there is anything I can do to stop from this happening?" I asked myself. Since then I decided to know more computer concept so that I could help these people bring their computers back to life. I, therefore, have chosen my major in Computer Science as the result of that it is my passion and aspiration.
I come from a working class Chinese family. My father drove a taxi, and my mother was an office assistant. Of course, both my parents wanted a better future for me, so when I was only ten years old, I asked them to participate a summer camp where Chinese people of all ages were learning how to assemble and to fix personal computers. I was the youngest person at Computer Camp, but I found it was easy for to understand this knowledge. At that time my fellow campers all smiled and encouraged me as I fit every part into a mother board, then added the power supply and setup operating system to produce a working computer. After this camp, I built up my first computer; as a result, I felt a sense of accomplishment and more engaged into computers.
In those days the computers available in China were not the best; moreover, the performance of computers was unstable. Therefore, system regularly "crashed", and the result of this was that repairs to and reprogramming of many computers was often necessary. My experience in summer camp made me into the "computer expert" in our school. As a result of this, I was often asked by my peers, and sometimes even by their parents, to repair or to optimize their computers. Every computes that I fixed not only did expand my practical experience but also inspired me to know more about computers.
When I was still growing up, I was motivated by power of computers. What I learned was that a computer is not just another household machine. In fact, the computer is an amazing device that can take a little boy all around the world, and conducts very complex tasks. My teachers at school were impressed by my interest in computers. Consequently, they regularly told me about books that I could read that would teach me more about computer science and what computers make possible. I read a book about Flash that taught me how to use a computer to create animated characters, and the idea that I could produce short cartoon stories on my own computer was very exciting. Of course, a certain amount of programming skill and knowledge about how it works is needed. As a result, I learned C programming methods and when I was only twelve years old. With help of my teachers, I even created a simple game for my younger cousin. Later, when I had assess to the Internet, I created my own website, online game server and FTP server. Even though in people's view I had known many things in computers, I deeply realized that I had only a superficial understanding of it.
With instinct of seeking fresh things, I am immersed in the happiness of accomplishment on computers where I could extract my passion. I am eager to pursue the knowledge of computer in next level; Someday, hence, I could innovate technology that brings convenient for people's habits.
