Undergraduate / 'help others to get the ball rolling and self-perseverance' - Responding to an unfamiliar situation [3]

Hi guys, I'm currently writing my entrance paragraphs and any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Explain how you responded to a problem and/or an unfamiliar situation. What did you do, what was the outcome, and what did you learn from the experience? (maximum 200 words)

As I was a volunteer at a senior home, I knew it was inevitable that sooner or later I would have had to interact with the elderly residents, an area I clearly was not proficient in. However, being put into such a position outside of one's comfort zones forces you to adapt to the situation. To be able to open yourself to the seniors, you have to take the first step by approaching them to start a conversation. Through the help others to get the ball rolling and self-perseverance, I was eventually able to develop the social skills necessary to talk to the seniors, a crucial asset that would be transferable to the outside side. From this experience, I was able to learn a different perspective on world by people that succeeded generations before me. Most importantly, I acquired the priceless skill to communicate and relate to another human being.
