I learned how to lead and how to follow

Throughout my life I have some chance of being a leader. My leadership experience came from being an .... Laboratory Assistant when I was in college. This experience has taught me that leadership is to influencing or motivating group of people. I responsible to ensure all my students get enough knowledge about the subject so they will pass the test. It was a big challenge to lead more than 30 people in my class. I always motivated them to study hard together since our very first meeting. I take initiative to split them into some group contain 5-6 people and applied the peer tutoring system. Once I have taught the course, I gave them a different exercise to each group. Then every group have to solve the exercise together and teach the other group. I think this is more effective because student could get many types of practice and encourage them to more understand the subject in order to become a good tutor for their friends. At the end of the semester all of my students passed the course, even 2 of them scored the highest grade in class of 2012.

Having 3 years of work experience, I have learned both how to lead and follow. Since 2014 I work in one of the big automotive company in Indonesia as a Procurement staff. Basically, my job is to procure spare parts as soon as possible to maintain customer satisfaction. It is not an easy job because I have to deal with many urgent order everyday. To handle it, I need to analyse each problem and quickly start to think the solution. Then I have to either follow up to supplier or coordinate with my logistic and workshop team. Both requires leadership skills, such as communication and ability to adapt with different characters of the labours. Most of my work is to expedite parts from suppliers. I need a good negotiation skill to do it and to keep our suppliers get a good score for their performance appraisal. I also have to coordinate with my logistic and workshop team to procure part immediately. I delegate duties among the labours to implement the solution. At first it was hard for me because I feel reluctant with people who were older and more skilled. But I believe a good attitude is the key to a good relationship with colleagues. I always behave politely and respect the elders so they can follow my instructions well. Therefore the order urgent can be released faster and reach our target.
