One of the key to success is establish connection. I believed that good connection can make easy to achieve what we want. During I am working at XXX, I met a lot of employee which is have different discipline and character, hence can applied as lesson learned and made me learning more.
Approach type with operator and engineer are different. Need special effort if in touch with operator, since operator especially senior operator is conservative person who not willing to change their mindset. The operators relies on their experience to set operating condition without any ideas to bring operating condition nearest optimum condition.
Advanced Process Control (APC) is proven control technology and have been implemented in oil and gas, petrochemical and soon on in worldwide for 20 years. In other hand, XXX implemented APC in 2014. In the beginning, production operator team doubtful about APC since change to old mindset. I was process control team, in which responsible assisting and supervising APC vendor. I engaged with operation team as provide information plant, Distributed Control System (DCS) team as provide regulatory control system and instrument team as provide instrumentation. We regularly conducted meeting with related party about APC outstanding and followed up to solve it to ensure that APC successful to implemented. My team conducted operator training regarding APC utilization as well as how to use APC properly. Sometimes, we conducted training APC for operator refreshment. The project lasted for almost 1 year from the target project 1 year. After the completion of the project, ET plant obtained a benefit of around 1MUSD/year and payback period of less than 1 year.
As Process control and optimization engineer, I often met with vendor for meeting or workshop. Meeting regarding process control, process solution, process simulation and so on, even offering new product. I regularly conduct process simulation workshop for my department. Aspen provided free workshop. We made case which meet as real plant, hence after workshop we more confident to applied simulation.
I joined in chemical engineer Indonesia forum by using Telegram as one of administrator. Whole chemical engineer either students, lecturers, fresh graduates, or professional are welcome to join these forum. Forum itself sharing everything regarding professional experience, transfer knowledge, jobs, hand book and so on. Occasionally, we provided online discussion by professionals, lecturers or someone who willing to participate as speaker who expertise in their field. Due to join these forum as admin, our team often invited by student association in some universities as speaker as well as trainer. I had experienced as process simulator trainer in some university in Indonesia such as xxx University (2016) for advanced level, yyy University (2016, 2017) for basic level. Even, In Indonesia company such as IP (2017).
