I use networking capabilities to bridge each idea into actions and solutions to improve work efficiency.

I did this in my job as an assistant editor in online media. As a technology journalist, I often exposed to the latest technological developments. Most of the time this knowledge has helped me to create solutions to streamline workflow in the office.

One of the example is the idea to ​​creating tools that can be used to provide recommendations about the topic of the article. This idea occurred after I conducted an interview with an NLP (Natural Languange Processing) expert, He made tools to measure social media sentiment.

From this interview I know the basic idea of that tools can be used for my office benefit. Then I discuss the idea with the IT team. Currently, the IT team is in the process of developing that idea.

I did the same thing when I had the idea to create a daily traffic report dashboard. The IT team then realized my idea of ​​creating a dashboard traffic that can be used by all channels in our office.

In my opinion, the knowledge I gained during news coverage, interviews, and writing technology news greatly helped to convey the development idea to the IT team.

Its also bridging the solution between editorial problem with the IT team resources and talent. They have the talent but did not really know what difficulties we as the editorial team faced. While the editorial team often stuck with daily routines that can actually be made effective with technology -- that we cannot made it.

There are still many ideas and things I got to make office work more effective with the help of technology in the future. This office has not optimized the use of the potential big data it has or uses AI in processing news for instance. Even though these are two technological are becoming trends nowadays and will flourish in the future.

My networking skill has succeeded in bridging the parties who have ideas and have the ability to manifest solutions that are useful for the larger community. journalism industry in Indonesia

My role is as a writer in at one of national online news room to help the editor on spesific channel. But our team is had slow paced, less productive, uneffective organized. We often got complain from our superordinate, editor in chief.

But, I believe this team actually has potential to be better. So I made a plan to change to encourage the team to work faster and produce more. I initite to start work more effective and faster for my self to influence the team. My goal is tried to outpaced everyone productivity to know that this goal is achieveable.

After I felt this target actually achieveable, I tried to increasing my subordinate daily article target gradually. Proven that they actually could produce more and faster than before. In the end of the day, I give appraisal for every improvement they made.

To influence my peer and editor, I initiate to have a daily traffic insight from a report to give insight on which topic are interesting to reader. From this report we can oversee the trend among the reader. Then I give insight on my peer and editor on how we can use the data. This report also can be used to have insight about the performance when we want to have experimental article.

The result, we can work more effectively, gain more news done per day basis, and our Editor in Chief got less complain on us. Its also improve our overall traffic and making us more experimental to figure out the best way attracting reader to our site.

Leadership is not about having a position, but how we handle a situation, give a solution to that matters, and encourage the team to do the action.

I also believe experiment is the other necessity for a leader to make innovation on their expertice vertical, in my case journalism. Specially in these days when technology are disrupt every business vertical. I think this is the time for journalism industry in Indonesia to adapt with latest inovative technology.
