Chevening choice of courses

Studying in the county where the social policy was first created is the best solution to improve my knowledge and skills as a social worker. The UK has a social policy that is older than in other countries around the globe. In 1601, Elizabeth Poor law was invented to tackle human problems. Furthermore, the community and the social policy association are the reasons because I will meet many people from other backgrounds to understand more about that.

My first preferred course is an MA in Social Policy at the University of Birmingham. Poverty is still the highest problem in Indonesia. I had experience in my field study of distributing aid from the government to poor people but many people with well-being conditions receive that support but the poor people did not receive it because regulation of the social policy was not implemented well. One of the core modules about poverty, health, and equality that are crucial to my goals and decrease poverty in Indonesia. Graduating from this institution will have an impact not only on myself but also on increasing people's well-being related to poverty.

My second preferred course is an MSc in Social Change and Policy at the University of Sheffield. One of the core modules is an international social change and social problems that I am interested in. Indonesia has 26 social welfare problems, one of those in poverty. With this core module, I hope to evaluate and create a better social policy to solve the problem because many regulations are still not effective. After graduating from university I will help to evaluate a social policy that was created to solve the problems.

My third preferred course is an MA in Social Policy at the University of York. In this institution, they provide social policy analysis and research training that are important to develop my knowledge and skill. One of the modules about Globalization and social policy that talk about a range of global social policy issues, such as poverty and inequality is crucial to my goals.

Studying a social work subject, doing an internship in the social institution, and working with local people make me understand that studying social policy will help many people in Indonesia and create a big impact because this is a way I can either evaluate social policy created by the government or non-government organization or create a new policy that better for to the society.

Upon completion of my master's study, one of my goals I will try to increase voluntary activities because Based on The World Giving Index (WGI) in 2018, Indonesia was in the first rank of over 140 countries. Three charitable acts are 46 % helping a stranger, 78 % donating money, and 53% voluntary time. But the fact shows that 25,14 million live in poverty even though Indonesia has become the most charitable country in the world. I will collaborate with the government to create better social policy and maximize voluntary activities.
