Undergraduate / Why to become a Sonographer? [2]
Hello everyone,
I am applying to a school to become a Sonographers and I do need to submit an essay as to why I would like to enter this field. Surely, I am terrible at writing essays and expressing my true feelings and understandings on paper. Here is what I have so far. Thank you all in advance for your help, I truly appreciate your time. Im also missing my conclusion, any suggestions?
Growing up I was the kid that always answered realistically when asked what I wanted to become when I grew up. I was very realistic in my expectations because I knew what I wanted for the future and for myself. Never did I think to be an astronaut or the next President of the United States. Not because I didn't think it could be a possibility for me, but simply because it did not interest me enough. In this short essay I would like to walk you through my thoughts on sonography and why I believe it will be the best career for me.
As Confucius once said, "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." Instead of choosing a job that I love, I thought about what I love doing most, my passion, helping others. The feelings I receive after helping someone in need are unbelievably rewarding for me. There are countless of careers that allow you to help others, like a firefighter or a teacher or even a grocery stocker. As all the jobs I listed are essential to helping others, sonography called out to me in a different way. By becoming a sonographer, I am able to assist a doctor in diagnosing a patient, a diagnosis that could save a life. I am able to be the one to introduce new parents to their growing baby. This brings me great joy.
Ultrasound can save lives. Reproductive organs, thyroid, spleen, heart, blood vessels; these are just a small fraction of what an ultrasound can create images of. With sonography, you can produce images of the inside of the body. The human body is like a black box; just the thought of being able to see what's going on inside is fascinating. You can detect cysts, gallstones, abnormal growths in the liver or pancreas, liver cancer and so much more, within minutes! These images help doctors diagnose patients and potentially save a life by providing much needed medical care.
As a sonographer you do much more than take images of the inside of the body. You are a professional looking into a persons most sacred place, their body. Each patient is in need of your assistance, whether it's due to pain or simply to ensure that a fetus is growing healthy. Although I am sure this career has its challenges, like many others, I believe that this is the career I want to pursue because I have what it takes to be there for others in their time of need.
