Burst of Rainbow

There are some things in life that money can not buy. The main one; happiness. Following this opening statement is a comparing and contrasting of two candies, fighting for their rightful place in creating happiness in ones mind. Skittles verses Starbursts; one will stand on top and bring forth the true demeanor of peoples tastes.

Skittles are a soft candy, with a hard shell outer coating. The rainbow spectrum of colors blends to ones mind, as the colors are of a certain variety, much like an actual rainbow, blending and mixing to create a perfect harmony of flavor. The palate is transformed; there is a perpetual bliss when one indulges in one of these candies, projecting the eaters mind into a vision of the diverse rainbow, tasting the essential "happiness" thusly created by the flavor of each individual candy placed into ones mind.

On the other side of the fence, Starbursts explode with a mix of fruit juices, divulging into a burst of flavor with the soft, chewy candy melting in ones mouth. Starbursts create a sensory feeling, much like the predecessor in Skittles, but the difference with Starbursts is that they create their own language with their sweet, slightly sour bodies, manipulating ones mind to agree with their so-called fabricated faux-love. They create an amazing presence, beautifully shown through the flavor that it has made.

These two candies, both with their equal differences, share normality's, which make them alike. These are both, in actuality, soft candies that makes for an immediate example of their likeliness. In other terms, however, they make exemplarily details in creating peace in ones mind to provide the eater into another world, showing a side of themselves which has never been brought by any other candies, creating their own world of tranquility and celibacy through the taste of fruitful flavor.

Thus said, these candies are due time for their differences. They are, indeed, quite an amazing combination with their creations, but they are not all perfect. Skittles create the perfect rainbow, showing all colors of their kindred spectrum, housing all their special flavors and manipulating the person into believing they are on a rainbow, whilst Starbursts create a sensory feeling of an energetic, constructive mood that one will burst in a conflagration of a sweet, sourly, and chewy feeling of their own mind.

As a final statement in the differentiating battle of Skittles and Starbursts, I boldly state that the creator of the "rainbow" falls into first place in a blaze of glory, showing its superiority above these two candies. There is a reality created with the Skittles; for indeed, you can taste the rainbow.

Research Papers / 'Global warming is taught in school for government to control us' - on global warming [3]

I just finished my research paper on global warming. You all have helped me so much on my last 2 papers and i need big help on this one. Please let me know what you think and let me know if i need anything re written. I used 1 book and 2 internet sources Paper is 5 pages. thanks so much Beth

Global Warming Research Paper

Global warming is a very real scientific study and a part of our lives. It is an increase in the average temperature of the earth's atmosphere due to the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. If we ignore the facts now the results could be catastrophic.

Global warming has been caused by the people of the world. Many things have happened as a result. Since the beginning of the 20th century the average surface temperature has increased by 1.1 degrees. Just in the past 40 years it has risen by a half of a degree. This doesn't sound like much right away but any change in temperature causes melting to the polar ice caps. If they continue to melt the sea level could start to rise dramatically. As of now the global sea level is raising 3 times faster in the last hundred years when compared to the last 3000 years.

Within the last ten to fifteen years the results of global warming have been hard to ignore. Seven out of ten of the warmest years in recorded history have been in the 1990's. With the combination of global warming and El Nino in 1998 the temperatures shot to a new high.

Mountain glaciers have been receding. The arctic ice pack has lost about 40% of it's thickness in the last 40 years. Even plants and animals are showing a wide range of effects in recent studies.

Even though all the scientific evidence is out there some people **** think global warming is a junk science. They won't believe it. These are the "seeing is believing type of people" (Farah,"Global").

Joseph Farah from the WorldNet daily news thinks that it is horrible that there is a chapter in every science textbook about global warming. These books talk about the "hysterical claims made about this theory". He says that "It wouldn't make a bit of difference if we burned up all the oil reserves in the world in a day and a night. There would be no noticeable or measurable impact on the world's temperatures." Many scientists around the world would beg to differ with this statement (Farah,"Global").

The explanation to many as far as why global warming is taught in school is that it is the government's control over you. They want to scare you into wanting more control over yourself. This translates into more laws and less freedom. The only problem with the theory is that there is scientific evidence that proves that global warming is a real problem.

Global warming is affecting everyone. You can find changes in your own backyard. The extremely noticeable changes are found when studying habitats of plants and animals. Scientist are now seeing a slow move northward. Other habitats are having a change in the timing of their life cycles.

In the Polar Regions a big problem is arising. Once frozen solid land is now turning into swamp. This will eventua1ly lead to a time when the Arctic Ocean will be ice-free in the summer months. Most animals' native to this area like "polar bears, ice-dwelling seals and some sea birds" will be pushed "to the brink of extinction."( NESMITH, 2004)

People that don't believe in global warming say that there's no scientific proof that the earths temperature is rising. Evidently they never read up on the greenhouse effect. The earth's atmosphere has mix of nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide. This mixture is a delicate balance that makes the temperature on earth proper for plant and animal life. "Without these gasses, scientists estimate the earth's surface temperature to be well below freezing." (Pringle, 2001)

The problem that no one seems to realize is that by burning fossil fuels we are putting carbon into the air. Carbon absorbs heat. So when it goes into the atmosphere we get more heat. Carbon is also released very rapidly during deforestation from the burning of trees. Instead of the plants filtering our air of carbon dioxide they release carbon into the air forming carbon dioxide. It's a double negative which is greatly affecting our temperature.

The releasing of aerosols has almost the same effect as carbon dioxide on the atmosphere. They both end up causing the same problem. Incoming light from the sun goes through the atmosphere and the greenhouse gasses and gets absorbed by these greenhouse gasses. But now that we are adding to the amount off gas we are getting more heat absorption.

These gasses are adding up every day. In 1987 the "carbon dioxide reached 340 parts per million" and "in 1999 360ppm". It is estimated that "in 2050 the carbon dioxide count will be 600ppm". This is at the point in which the global temperature would be "higher than it has ever been and will cause serious problems" unlike the warning sign we are experiencing currently (Pringle, Global Warming4-20).

It is a fact that the average rise in temperature globally is 1.1 degrees. The startling fact is that parts of Alaska, Canada, and Northern Russia they have experienced a rise in temperature by 5 degree Fahrenheit. This is because they are in the Northern Hemisphere where there is less water. Less water means less of the new found heat is being taken away by the vast ocean.

If your still a skeptic than listen to this. In the last 16 years "the front of the Columbia Glacier has retreated more than eight miles" (Pringle, Global Warming10-20). And Montana's Glacier National Park will have no glaciers within a couple of decades. The Aletsch Glacier in Switzerland lost more than 300ft. of its thickness.

In 1995 more than 500 people died in Chicago alone. This was because the heat waves at nighttime left "no relief from daytime heat stress" " (Pringle, Global Warming6-25. With the heat in 1997-1998 from El Nino we can see how easily there could be widespread infection.

Some people think that the warming up of the planet would be a good thing. And yes, some things would flourish. They include pests, livestock, diseasesed mosquitoes, and parasites. Clearly you can see that global warming will definitely not help improve the world in the years to come.

To slow down global warming drastically we need to look at the main sources of carbon dioxide which are coal, petroleum, and natural gas. The problem is that this would basically shut down, "the coal and oil industries, oil-exporting nations, the automobile industry, and many manufacturers" " (Pringle, Global Warming15-30). So because these powerful companies don't want to lose money they hire "shanky" scientists to deny that there is a global warming problem. It will be a slow change but there are already some things being done.

Hybrid cars have been out on the market for a couple of years now. They use a small gasoline engine and high powered electric motor to drive the car. These vehicles get exceptional gas mileage and pollute considerably less than the conventional automobile. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are almost ready for production. The next step to have hydrogen refilling stations around the world.

Until we find a solution for global warming we need to make widespread knowledge that this is not a joke. It will not go away if people believe that it doesn't exist. We are the cause of global warming so we must take action against it. If it is ignored than the effects could be horrifying.

Woods Riding

The dirt bike is a motorcycle that is specially set up for riding over rough terrain as opposed to a road machine. Riding a dirt bike takes a mixture of common sense, knowledge, and precision. A beginner who is going to start driving their bike into the woods, trails, and sand dunes has to learn a whole new set of techniques both for riding and for caring for themselves and the machine.

Before you get on the bike, you should walk around and check it. First, make sure that the bike has plenty of gas and oil. Next, the chain should be tight but have some play. Then you should check the tires. They should have enough air in them that they do not flatten when you sit on the machine. Finally, one of the most important things to check for your own safety is the brakes. As a general rule, apply the brakes while trying to push the machine.

Next, there are a few things you will need to know in order to start and run a dirt bike. Some bikes have an ignition key. This will need to be switched to the on position. Every motorcycle has an ignition switch on the handlebars. This also needs to be in the on position. Then, below the fuel tank usually on the left side, there is a fuel valve. This will need to be in the vertical position to be on. When starting a cold engine you will need to put the choke in the up position. This can be on the carburetor or handle bar mounted depending on the model. Now you are ready to start the engine. Some models have electric start but most have a kick start. There is a certain technique to starting different types of engines. Bikes that are 2- Stroke, you just kick while a 4- Stroke usually needs to be pumped up. This means slowly push the kicker down until it gets harder to push. Then kick it as hard as you can with all of your weight behind it. Once you get it started, let your machine warm up before you begin to ride. You have to make sure you put the choke in before you ride because it could cause engine damage.

Finally, now that your bike is ready to ride you have to know how to put it into gear. Before you shift, you have to pull in the clutch and push the shifter down. Most bikes use the standard 1 down 5 up pattern. This means first gear is down and all the other gears are selected by pushing the shifter up. When you are ready to go, pull in the clutch and push the shifter down so that you are in first gear. When you take off make sure to slowly let out the clutch with a little bit of gas. Once you start moving, pick your feet up, place them on the pegs and shift by pushing the shifter up one so that it goes into second gear.

Now you are a novice dirt bike rider. After spending some time practicing, you will gain confidence in your ability to control the bike. Always use common sense and ride at a pace you feel comfortable with. If you follow these steps, you are on your way to riding safely and having a good time.

Writing Feedback / 'Attack of the Bees' - essay bout a day I will never forget [3]

I had to do a paper on A Day I Will Never Forget. I had written the paper already has to be 2 pages long no more no less. And double spaced 12 font. My last paper i had done i got a c-. My aunt loves to write papers and she helps me but my teacher is just really really hard. I need to do better on this one. If anyone can give me some pointers and i can revise it...and make is a little bit better since im sick with strep and cant go to the writing lab on monday. Thanks

Attack of the Bees

The day that will forever hold a place in my mind is the day I was attacked by bees. I was 11 at the time, living with my mother, stepfather, and two younger sisters. We lived in an apartment that was not of the greatest quality. The outside was very shabby and dirty with faded white siding. My friends and I often played in a field out back where we had many memories such as playing soccer, breaking my collarbone, and playing Frisbee.

It was a beautiful summer day. The sun was beating down and there was a gentle breeze. When I looked out my living room window, the field was calling my name. The luminous green grass swaying from side to side begged me to frolic in it. Therefore, my sister Megan and I called up my best friend Brendan to join us in a delightful game of Frisbee. When Brendan got to the field; we all formed a triangle and started throwing the Frisbee around. We were all having such a wonderful time until Megan over threw it right into the woods. It appeared to have landed right by an old fort that Brendan and I had built when we were little.

Then we all decided to walk over and retrieve the Frisbee; we were on a mission. We climbed over the string of honeysuckle bushes and dodged the sticks that seemed to appear out of nowhere. The small section of woods was a jungle of leaves and thorn bushes. We could not get very far without thorns rushing out and ripping up our skin. Then, Megan had stepped on a mound of leaves and unleashed thousands of enraged bees. They swarmed all around us, forming what looked like a yellow cloud of smoke. While clenching onto one another, screaming for aid, we knew we were helpless. After several minutes, I ran through the cloud to get help. I could feel the bees rage as they continued to sting my entire body.

Finally, still screaming as I reached the field, I started to feel weak. My mother heard my cries and came rushing out like a bobcat after her young, as I collapsed on the ground. She called 911 and yelled out to hear the other two. When the fire department arrived, they hosed down Brendan and Megan while I was rushed to the hospital. As I came to, the doctors had told my mother and me that I had been stung over one hundred times. I was as swollen and puffy as a marshmallow.

All in all this was the most horrific thing that has ever happened to me. Not only am I now terrified of bees but also I am highly allergic all because of that dreadful accident. I can honestly say I will never forget that sunny afternoon.
