Undergraduate / PERSONAL STATEMENT / Global Korea Scholarships (GKS-U) 2022 / Media & Communication [3]
Please help me improve my writing essay. Thank you!
- Motivations with which you apply for this program
- Family and Education background
- Significant experiences you have had; risks you have taken and achievements you have made, persons or events that have had a significant influence on you
- Extracurricular activities such as club activities, community service activities or work experiences
- If applicable, describe awards you have received, publications you have made, or skills you have acquired, etc.
What can I do when my family's educational background can not impress the public? My father managed to graduate from senior high school. Mother pursued her undergraduate study but discontinued due to her financial which did not support her to take another year. I come from a loving family, which encouraged me always to be a grateful and better person. Unfortunately, in this pandemic, our living cost for four persons is hard to get. My father has given a chance to work until the age of 55 before retiring, which concerns my family's future.
Furthermore, my sister is in a recovery state after getting appendix surgery which costs a considerable amount of money. I can not do much for my family since they told me to go focusing on this scholarship. Hence, I still help them finding some money through food delivery.
Some motivations deliberately put why I chose GKS-2022 as a scholarship that I want to take. To learn about Korea and its culture and study culture and its language, we need to do field research and put interest in studying Korea's language, culture, and environment based on real-life research. Interestingly, Korea has its cultural standards, fast-growing economy, and certifiable education, making it a suitable country for learning culture, study, and business. The government provides opportunities to study there with the recognized universities. I found out that Korea is a unique country from its people, habit, and study environment amazes me, convincing more to study in Korea. GKS is my chance to thrive in the selected major and Korea. I want to experience a new study life, gaining more knowledge from Korea and around the country, developing more skills within the scholarships period. I learned how to write a Korean language and pronounce it even though I did not know the meaning, which motivated me to learn more about Korea. It is not perfectly fluent right now; I have often enhanced my Korean language and tried every day to read hangul correctly autodidact. While taking an exciting path in editing photos, making a video, and writing makes me want to dig up my potential. I sense myself that I will thrive in media and communication platform. Therefore, I seek an opportunity to study Media & Communication. I want to voice my opinion and art through Media and Communication, which they said, "Art and Media can be the platform for the voiceless." I want to be part of the change for the country, for the society, and it drives my inspiration to help out people and share information through media around the world.
We will never know the world unless we experience it by ourselves. My journey meeting countless people will still advance from Sumatera, Borneo, Bali, and the last one, Java. Javanese people tend to speak with a soft tone, are very respectful to the eldest, and treat people like their family, which is highly different from Jakarta. I hung out frequently to learn their behavior, their accent, their language. I developed a survey - less talk, watch more - and in less than a year, I managed to control emotions, doing more social life to enhance my adapting skills. "Silence is golden," they said. It is possible to say that moving from another region bring forth a culture shock, fear of failure, seal off your social life. What is the point of life when you are not brave enough to take the risk of changing yourself? Since I went into vocational high school and entering food service, I learned survivability, independence at handling problems, teamwork, and arrangement of order and item. Food service is about your food quality and works in the kitchen, attitude, and knowledge. There are plenty of skills we could learn in vocational high school.
I could tell the difference in the freshness of groceries;
I could manage my time accuracy;
I could manage financial expenses by picking a good quality of food;
I learned how to bargaining politely;
Besides the introductory course, I perform channeling deals on the job, accounting, selling, dealing with the work environment, and managing food quality and manner when we face strangers or customers.
Aside from school policy, we could take any work to fill our vacation or semester off. I learned how to be a waitress and a cook helper. Important things to do on work is communication and teamwork, and I apply those things on my real life whenever I need to be a professional student handling assignment. Indeed work has its own rules to be obeyed; therefore, rules are acceptable to be performed by me. Being a waitress in Teak Tree back is all about handling a different customer and serving food. While working as a waitress, I needed to treat a different person with a different personality. The second important thing about being a waitress is that you need to treat them equally based on their personality, not as I pleased. As a cook helper in Il-Nostro and Eastparc Hotel, I enhanced my working skill and my socialization in the kitchen. You can not stay quiet all the time, can you? Talking to them about the progress or problems helped me gain a bond between them and the customer. Never pass an opportunity to act friendly to a stranger, right? As for my concern, those working experiences helped me motivate myself to learn new things from people. In my volunteering time, it was focusing on communication division. First thought about it was that this division was straitened. Hence, it was not that eerie to enforceable. I spoke calmly with a perfect pace, announcing my sentence with perfect clarity. I am now capable of communicating in public, having manners on communication, speaking in front of people, and changing the mood of a situation. I handle managing the rundown on an event; which time does it suitable for this session?
My activity other than taking a volunteer, part-time job, I also love filming, editing photo, and writing. I filmed and edited my sister's work for the school's competition, and the result was terrific for a beginner. As for editing photo, I love to play with tone and saturation to make the photo looks more aesthetic like in Pinterest. About my writing, I wrote fanfiction on Wattpad using the Indonesian Language, but now still on hold because I am focusing on writing as a journalist. It took my attention after reading references about current news, international issues, and many more.
Please help me improve my writing essay. Thank you!
