Undergraduate / "Cool kid" - UBC Tell us about yourself essay [2]
Prompt :
How would your family, friends, or members of your community describe you? If possible, please include something about yourself that you are most proud of and why. (Max 1500 characters or 200-500 words.)
"You are so obsessed with many things, you just don't know which one to focus on now," my junior high school teacher said. My family, friends, and members of my community would describe me as someone who is deeply passionate and driven. In junior high, my interest in space exploration drove me to teach myself rocket science and design a flight control program for it, but I struggled to find a balance between my interests and my studies at that time.
But as I entered 10th grade, my father said my greatest growth was that every time I encountered a problem, instead of complaining about it like before, I tried to find a way to solve it. I actively sought out solutions and was able to successfully balance my interests and studies. I am particularly proud of my ability to teach myself how to create a laptop price prediction program using AI while still maintaining my top academic performance.
In the eyes of others, I am often seen as a "cool kid" who takes on "impossible" tasks. But in reality, I am driven by the same wonder with elon musk about what's impossible, Maybe a time machine is too hard to figure out. But the "impossible thing" of riding 600 miles all the way from Beijing to Shandong, for me its just the love and time I put into cycling makes this journey becomes a function of probabilities versus possibilities.
