Graduate / Reviewing LOR for my student in computer science [4]

I'm going to give LOR to a student who has a class with me, he is brilliant but I'm not sure how much this letter will help him. please help me with your valuable comments and suggestions.

I am writing this letter in support of Mr. XXX and his desire for the PhD. program. I have known Mr. XXX since he took my computer organization course during his undergraduate studies. YYY overall intelligence was reflected in his grade for the course, which were by far the best in the class.

Though YYY has consistently exceeded in all areas of his coursework, the best example of his intelligence shone through a paper on usage of ZZZ in PPP under my supervision. He is a well-organized student in individual and team work projects. As an instance, although he did not have any specific course on the ZZZ subject; he could conduct his paper with a minimum guidance both in theory and implementation. He was capable of facing new challenges as the team coordinator in international RRR competitions where he was responsible to interview with applicants in robotic lab and training junior members for contest.

It is worth mentioning that he was graduated as valedictorian student in 2007 among more than 100 undergraduate students. Furthermore, I was one of the referees for his B.Sc. thesis "KKK" presentation where it was approved by the referees with A+ score.

Despite all previous researches on KKK, XXX's highly-motivation made him to come with new ideas on the KKK solvers .He has a journal paper about exact solution for KKK problems under progress, and I expect him to publish more papers as his study on the subject of planning under uncertainty continues.

For these reasons, I strongly recommend him for PhD and ask that university to award him any kind of financial aid available.

The boundless possibility of trying out and the instant knowledge of the outcome that stimulates one for further analysis of a rationale in question is what I find most appealing about Computer Science. I wish to pursue my PhD degree in Computer Science with an emphasis on Machine Learning starting fall 2010. I am interested in gaining necessary skills needed to challenge more complex problems in order to advance our current knowledge and understanding in the field of Machine Learning, Human Computer Interaction and Robotic. I believe it will also serve to give direction to my goal of a career as a research professional at an academic, commercial or research-oriented organizations.

Knowledge and proper training are essential to succeed in today's highly competitive world. Through the information I obtained about the university's research centers, Social intelligent Machines Lab, Humanoid Robotic, as well as great professors whose research activities are focused on the subjects I am interested in, I found University of XXX as the best place for my future research studies.

Over the past four years, I have developed a successful research in the areas of Machine Learning and Robotic Technology. I have been accepted in ZZZ University AI and Robotic Lab in 2008 after finishing my undergraduate studies in YYY University where I was research assistant in Mechatronic Research Laboratory as well. During my undergrad, I have developed a Soccer Simulation team and participated in International RRR Competitions for two successive years. RRR competitions were a great opportunity for me to develop different Machine Learning algorithms for locomotion and gait generation, localization and teammate and opponent modeling. Most of these researches leaded to publications or open a new space for more investigation for me. By using and applying our experiences in our first participation in Germany 2006 RRR Competition, we reached the 2nd place in the next competition, Open RRR Competitions, April 2007, DDD.

During my master study, I had several courses related to machine learning and robotic such as: probabilistic AI robotic, Autonomous robots, Reinforcement Learning which helped me to implemented these methods in real world application from financial trading, web base services, efficient software test case generation to more specific robotic problems such as gait generation and SLAM . I'm going to register for human computer interaction course in spring 2010 at ZZZ and get knowledge about how human as a teacher can make influences in machine learning process both in training time and quality of generated solution.

I have communicated with Professor AAA and Professor BBB and they strongly encouraged me to apply to University of ZZZ. I am confident that my unique research experience and background in the field of Machine Learning and Robotic in XXX University, graduate studies, and strong passion in this field will fully support me to develop a successful research experience as a PhD researcher at University of ZZZ.

I would like to continue my research in machine learning especially with human teacher interaction and evaluate performance of resulting outputs. I have read and presented AAA recent paper from HRI 2009 in our group seminar which helped me to know more her fabulous research group.

I would like to become a research assistant in "Social Learning Lab" and have research on applications of machine learning to complex problem combined with HCI methods. I am certain that my enthusiasm and commitment help me to make a great contribution to research field, machine learning and Robotic Systems.
