The table compares the potato intakes by kg per person and production in million tonnes in different regions in 2006.
Overall, Europe recorded the highest potatoes consume whereas the reverse was true for Africa. Moreover, the highest figure of potato produce was seen in Asia while South and Central America were the lowest.
Regarding the consumption of potatoes, Europe took the lead with 96,1 kg per person. Followed by North America, at 57.9 kg per person, which was nearly 1.5 times as much as that in Europe. Also, potato consumption in Asia and South and Central America is almost equal, at 25.8kg and 23.6 kg respectively. In addition, the potato intakes in Africa recorded the lowest figure with 14.1 kg per person, equaled one-seventh to Europe.
Turning to potato production, Asia was by far the highest number of potatoes production with 131.2 million tonnes, whereas only ranked 3rd in potato consume. However, Europe ranked 1st of potato output but only produce 126.3 million tonnes. Additionally, the figure in North America, Africa and South and Central America were trivial, being lower than 25 million tonnes, at 24.7 million, 16.4 million, and 15.6 million respectively.
