Motivation Letter for MSc Human Computer Interaction in Universität Siegen [6]
Hello everyone!! I am applying to Siegen University for this summer semester. It would be really helpful if you leave your suggestions/feedback. Thank you so much for your help.Dear Admission Committee,
I am writing this letter to express my interest in applying for the Human-Computer Interaction master's course at Universität Siegen. With a degree in Computer Science and a passion for designing accessible and user-centric digital experiences, I have immersed myself in the fields of UX and HCI over the past year gaining valuable skills and insights. Now I am eager to pursue a master's degree to enhance my knowledge and transition into a successful career.
My journey into design began as a poster designer for a college event, where I conducted informal research and designed posters based on the findings to boost student attendance. Witnessing the positive impact, these had on the event made me realize the significance of effective design. Eager to explore further for my bachelor's project, I developed a system that recognizes sign language and converts it into readable text and audible speech, enabling communication between deaf-mute individuals and hearing people. This project helped me understand accessibility issues in technology and reinforced my commitment to creating inclusive digital solutions
Since then, I enrolled in a course titled "User Experience: The Beginner's Guide" at Interaction Design Foundation (IDF). This course covered essential UX concepts like user research, usability, prototyping, wireframing, and interaction design, providing a solid foundation for creating intuitive products. Currently, I am working as a UX design Intern at a startup company xxxx, where I contribute to a platform aimed at addressing the challenges of misinformation, misrepresentation, and echo chambers in today's digital landscape. Throughout this experience, I have conducted user research to understand user goals and pain points, developed wireframes and prototypes to iterate on design solutions, and collaborated closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the product aligns with both user needs and business objectives. This hands-on involvement in the UX process-from research to testing-has given me a comprehensive view of how user-centered design can drive meaningful impact within a company.
This internship not only helped me understand the process of product design but also motivated me to pursue further studies. I believe that Siegen is the ideal place for me to do this due to its comprehensive curriculum, strong focus on research, and exciting projects undertaken at the university. The courses on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) will provide a strong foundation in theory and practice, along with research methodologies. I am particularly interested in the Computer Supported Collaborative Work (CSCW) course, which addresses workflow management, media spaces, and cooperative virtual environments essential for seamless digital experiences. Additionally, the Media Aesthetics course intrigues me for its exploration of sensory perception through text, tone, picture, and film, enhancing my understanding of how media impacts user experiences. I am particularly inspired by the work of Junior Professor Claudia Muller, who designs technologies aimed at fostering social inclusion and addressing the changing needs of an aging society. Her focus on enhancing social participation, care, and well-being for older adults through participatory and ethical approaches aligns with my goals in Human-Computer Interaction.
I chose Germany for my master's because of its strong educational reputation, emphasis on practical learning, and leading research in technology and design. The country's focus on innovation, ethical tech practices, and inclusive design aligns with my values. After graduation, my career aspiration is to contribute to industries such as healthcare, education, or technology, creating intuitive and accessible digital products that prioritize social responsibility and inclusivity.
With everything said, I am confident that I would be a valuable addition to the program with the experience and knowledge I gained so far. The subjects offered align perfectly with my professional goals, and I am particularly excited about the research activities, internship program, and mandatory master's thesis, as they provide an excellent opportunity to apply the knowledge I will acquire. I hope I have clearly conveyed my interest in studying this course, joining the vibrant community, and learning from esteemed professors and fellow students.
Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to join Universität Siegen.
