Nowadays , many museums and historical buildings are primarily visited by tourist and not local people. This trend has both benefits and drawbacks.
Firstly, historical buildings and museums are always top choices so tourists usually choose to come here on their tour. Secondly, tourists like to come places they have never visited. For examples, I really want to visit historical places in Ho Chi Minh City, because I live in Hanoi and the advertising for that place is very attractive.
On the other hand, local people do not visit these places often. I think these places may be too familiar to them. Therefore, these places have become tourist areas and it no longer belongs to them.
In conclusion, in my opinion, tourist should have good sense and respect for local people's places. And local people should advertise historical buildings because it contributes to their economic growth.
