Undergraduate / A model of a city - Waterloo Computer Science Application - Question #3 [2]

3. Describe a situation where you were treated unfairly or witnessed someone else being treated unfairly. What did you do at the time and why? Would you do anything differently if the same situation occurred today? Has this event impacted or changed who you are now and if so, how? (900-character limit)

A few years ago, I was assigned a group project to create a model of a city. I had the most knowledge, so my groupmates contributed very little, leaving me to do almost all the work. Although I felt overwhelmed and frustrated, I didn't want to seem bossy, so I kept quiet and handled everything on my own. The pressure built up as my requests for help went ignored. After discussing it with my mom, she spoke to the teacher, who recognized my work and gave me the mark I believed my efforts merited, even though the project was unfinished. If this happened today, I would approach my groupmates directly and express how unfair their behavior was. This experience taught me the importance of standing up for myself, valuing my contributions, and no longer allowing others to take advantage of me. It made me more confident and assertive in advocating for myself and others.

Undergraduate / Computer Science - applying for ODYLP: Vietnam [6]

Computer science is not an acedemic subject. It is comprised of several difference acedemic subjects, mainly math and programming. Your answer is quite basic too. Everybody loves computer science for that exact reason so try to be make it more personal and narrative if you can.

Undergraduate / volunteering at a summer school - Waterloo AIF - Question #2 [3]

You have written a lot of background information, however if anything, this information is being against you, especially that sentence where you mention y our lack of experience. Rather than directly talking about that, try putting yourself in a more positive light, and say things such as "after training" or "after preperaing". You should spend less space describing the program itself, and describe your impact more.

Undergraduate / The Head of Technology - Waterloo Computer Science Application - Question #2 [4]

Thanks for the response. The questions on the AIF say that there is a 900 character limit, so its not by words. Here is my new response

For the past two years, I have been an active member and Head of Technology in my school's STEM club. In this role, I identified a lack of engagement in technology-based activities and decided to hold a hands-on event where students built race cars from materials like batteries and wires. As the leader, before the event, I held a presentation to share tips and tricks for building, explaining key rules and concepts to ensure everyone was prepared. I guided participants through the process, ensuring they understood the principles of technology while encouraging teamwork. I took responsibility for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the event. This event attracted new members to the STEM club, having them return for future events. My leadership throughout this event transformed the club from just an average club, into a space where students are excited to learn, collaborate and innovate.

Undergraduate / The Head of Technology - Waterloo Computer Science Application - Question #2 [4]

2. Briefly describe a group, organization, or community that you have been involved in, are a member of, and/or have contributed to. What contributions have you made as a member of this group? Were you able to lead, influence others and/or influence decisions for the good of the group and its goals? How has your involvement helped make this community better? (900-character limit)

For the past 2 years, I have been an active member and the Head of Technology in my school's STEM club. In this role, I organized and led various engaging events centered around technology, including coding workshops, tech demos and hands-on projects. Last year, I held a highly successful event where students built race cars from materials like batteries, wires and other technology. This event significantly increased the club's popularity and attracted many new members to other events. My contributions helped make the club a more vibrant and inclusive space for students to explore technology. It was great to see how my leadership brought everyone together and helped them pick up valuable technology skills during these events. This experience helped me grow as a leader, teaching me how to support others in building their tech skills while encouraging teamwork and creativity.
