John convinced Harrison to join the group. The group changed there name to Johnny and the Moon dogs in 1958. A friend of Lennon's Stu Sutcliffe, became there bassist. Shortly there after changed there name to Sliver Beatles, and eventually became the Beatles in 1960. Sutcliffe, Lennon's friend primarily an artist and could hardly play a note. Sutcliffe sold one of his paintings for considerable amount which aloud them to upgrade the equipment. Tommy Moore the original drummer was replaced by Pete Best in August of 1960. After best joined the band they headed to Hamburg, Germany. This was the start of their experience needed to become the performers that would take America by surprise. Harrison was deported back to England for being under age and lacking a work permit. Building there repertoire playing thirty sets a week February 21, 1961. They debuted at Caven Club where they had 300 performance over the next couple years. They played regular and to pack houses. Sutciffe stayed behind to stay with his feasay and continue his passion in art. One year later he passed as a result of a brain tumor.
Brian Epstien after hearing and seeing them perform became there manger. They changed there appearance to collarless gray Pierre carton suits, and mildly erogenous hair cuts. The Beatles were rejected by nearly every label in Europe. In May of 1962 Gorge Martin signed the group to EMI's radiophone subsidiary. Martin has best to leave the group and Ringal Star replaced him. ON September 11, 1972 the Beatles cut two originals, "Love me do and P.S. I love you" and became there first in the United Kingdom. They hit the top twenty carts October 19 1966 with "Please Please Me" (went to number two) and then the song " From me to you" (went to number one).
This was the start of Beatle mania mobbed by screaming fans police protection became a necessity. "She loves me" became biggest selling single in British history. Capital was EMI's American label released "I wanna hold your hand," as a single and "Meet the Beatles" an album these were the Beatles first U.S chart toppers.
Met by screaming mobs at New York City's Kennedy airport and more than 70 million viewers watched there appearance on the Ed Sullivan show February 9 and 16 1964. Hit after hit they managed to hold the top five spots on music charts. The song "Yesterday" number one in 1965 would become one of the master cover songs ever written. They were setting records for the largest concert audiences.
In later years there lyrics became more poetic and some what more political. After Lennon's comments in the summer of 1966 " We are more popular than Jesus now". They started receiving death treats there were Beatle record bonfires for the safety of the band their music was made in there studio and was at this time they started experimenting with exotic instrumentation. They last concert was played at San Francisco Candle stick park August 29 1966.
