Undergraduate / "Serenity" - my favorite word - UVa essay [2]

Serenity is not a word we use regularly in our vocabulary. In today's digital age, we are always working towards something and constantly perceiving new information; so much so, that we often forget about serenity. It is something we rarely find time for. The word is my favorite for those reasons, and more.

Serenity itself is a beautiful word. Though it's most basic definition is "calm" or "peaceful", to me it denotes an extreme calm that is not often achieved. Often I will find myself in a hurry or stressed about something, whether it is school, work, family, friends, or athletics. Complete serenity is what I wish to achieve. To be able to approach every situation with a composed, undisturbed mindset would be ideal.

Of course, such a goal is unachievable as stress is part of human nature. Sometimes stress can even help a person, being a motivator to get things done or a tool to make things the best they can be. However, these points do not detract from my appreciation of the word serenity. With all the anxiety that occurs in today's world, serenity is something to strive for. Even if it is just achieved for a few minutes, it can help you recollect your thoughts and relieve tension.

Serenity can prevent wars and settle arguments. It can resolve problems and create a better standard for living. If only others would think more about serenity.
