Poetry / "My essence, my being, drifting away" - NYU transfer supplement - poem [2]

I have been putting off writing the poem for the NYU supplement for a while now, but I really need to get my transfer application in ASAP.

Write a haiku, limerick, or short (eight lines or less) poem that best represents you.
This is what I have so far:

Gasping for air, but barely breathing
Slowly blending into the surroundings
My essence, my being, drifting away
Big city lights, big city dreams
Pull me back in

Writing poetry is definitely not something I am good at so any suggestions/help/anything would be greatly appreciated!
