Writing Feedback / Sometimes challenges bring out the best in us (a difficult medical condition) [NEW]

CBEST sample writing prompt
Unexpected challenges in our lives
sometimes bring out the best in us. For
example, we act heroically or
courageously in emergencies, we are
charitable when disasters affect our
friends, or we are unselfish and patient
when misfortune strikes our friends or
relatives. Pick an instance in your own life
when such a challenge stimulated in you a
response that pleased you. Describe the
situation, explain how you responded, and
tell what you learned about yourself from
the experience.

People are always facing challenges in life. These challenges can actually makes us stronger and positively shape our character. The following is my story of a time that changed who I am today.

When I was fourteen years old, I was misdiagnosed with Bipolar disorder in reality I suffered from a hormonal imbalance. I was so ill that I spent my whole high school education in and out of mental institutions. It was a difficult time for my family and I. Many thought I would never attend college or accomplish anything. I made a conscious decision that I was going to achieve my goals at all costs. I did not let my illness stop me from moving forward in life. Although I was over medicated and my life was very unstable I managed to come out on top. I persevered through hardship and I overstepped everyone's expectations of me. My choice to survive through severe hardship has enabled me to face any challenge never giving up and succeeding at all I attempt.

The doctors had over medicated me, at times I had seizures due to allergic reactions to different drugs. I gained 100 pounds in three weeks. My school life was constantly disrupted as I would be in and out of hospitals. My condition was only worsening but my determination and patience to persevere was always increasing. As things became harder, I fought harder to survive.

Even though my hospitalizations caused me to graduate a year late, I still went on to college. It was always my dream to attend college and although it was difficult I was determined to do it. I attended college with some difficulties still on medications for my wrong diagnosis. I would at times be falling asleep in class from the side effects of those drugs. Despite the challenges I faced I would strive harder.

My experience in my past dealing with a difficult medical condition made me a stronger person as I learned how to persevere in the worst of circumstances. Now whenever I am faced with hardship I don't give up on my goals. I simply try to find strategies to overcome all obstacles and continue to achieve my goals. For me a bad situation really turned into a beautiful one because I have used it as a spring board to motivate me throughout my whole life and to know how hard I have fought to come this far. Giving up is never the answer if you fail, try train again.
