Book Reports / meaning of blindness - Oedipus the King play by Sophocles [3]

Hello. I am doing an essay on Oedipus the King about the figurative and literal meaning of blindness. I know the literal meaning but I am having a little trouble with the figurative meaning. I kinda have an idea of what it means but don't know how to put it into words. Any suggestions will help. Thanks.
