Undergraduate / Girl Scouts and Completing - FAMU ESSAY activity, interest [3]

Describe an activity, interest, experience, or achievement in your life (this could be a book, movie or an activity or experience at work, home or school) that has been particularly meaningful to you.

I've been in many activities, had many interest, experienced a whole lifetime of things, and had numerous achievements. I must say the one in particular that's most meaningful to me is being in Girl Scouts and Completing my silver award. The silver award consists of setting self-improvement goals and also identifying important community problems and solutions. For my Silver project I collected and donated hundreds books to a unfortunate school. This happens to be the most meaningful achievement because I helped out a less fortunate school, I may have even helped out a child who wanted to expand their reading skills, and it prepared me to continue my gold award (The highest award you can complete in Girl Scouts) this year.

Anyone could've given a few books to a school, but it takes dedication and someone who cares to help the children better their education to collect books for months, pack them up and personally take them over to the school yourself. It was meaningful because I feel as if every school should have a equal learning opportunity. I knew donating some books wouldn't make a drastic change to the school but it would have some change. I would want some someone to do the same if I attended a less fortunate school.

Studies show not many students in elementary are interested in reading. What about they students that are interested in or enjoy reading? No child should be left behind because of the school they attend. Some students actually do take the time out to read, so their reading skills expand. I know didn't help the whole school or even a class room but it meant something to me because I felt I helped at least one student.

Lastly, the project prepared me to continue to complete my next project. My next project before I graduate is to help the homeless in haiti, by collecting and donating tents to send out to haiti so the homeless can have shelter to protect them from the weather. When I finish that project I'll have earned my gold award. The gold award will mean the most to me, I'll know that I went above and beyond when I'm done and that I helped families in haiti.

To reiterate, I've done many things in my life time but helping out a school happens to be the most meaningful. I helped out some students. How meaningful would it be to? To help out a child? A school? Or to even get ready to help out the homeless is a different country? To me it means more then words can explain.
