Undergraduate / "My family is a major driving force" - Transfer student: A commentary essay [NEW]

The University of Connecticut wants transfer students to do the following.

The Plan

My first academic goal is to be accepted into the Computer Science program at the University of Connecticut. I have always had an insatiable curiosity for knowing how and why technological things work. As a teenager I disassembled my mother's personal computer in an attempt to find out how and why it works. Once it was reassembled, much to my chagrin the computer was no longer functional. The mere thought of my mother's reaction to seeing her computer in this condition was unbearable. In a heated panic to get the computer working before she came home from work, I called a PC repair technician who came out, fixed it and left with all the money I had. I vowed this would never happen to me again. I read everything I could find about computer parts and practiced on that computer until I was able to disassemble and reassemble it problem free. My second academic goal is to study math intensely because it is vital to the Computer Science program. My third goal is to study hard and do well in computer and business classes. My fourth academic goal is to obtain a Masters degree in the Computer Science curriculum. My final academic goal is to leave with a 4.0 GPA. My overall plan is to format my time and education in such a manner where once completed, I will be able to excel in the current business market and be a competent programmer in the IT industry. I would also like to become a teacher in the computer field after I have gained many years of work experience.

The school I most recently attended is Norwalk Community college. It is an institution that offers education certificates and associate degrees in many fields. My reason for transfer is because I am graduating this spring. I will have achieved an Associate of Science Degree. I had planned to take more classes at my current college; however after doing a comparison of the credits that transfer, I found transferring immediately to be a more favorable option.

I have many reasons for wanting to attend the University of Connecticut. I spoke to some of my friends and my cousin who have graduated from University of Connecticut. They spoke highly of their experiences and of the education they received while attending. I've visited the college campus several times while they were in attendance and found the peaceful environment quite appealing. The diversity of the student body and the school spirit are also inviting factors. During my research of several colleges and their Computer Science programs the information I've obtained about the University of Connecticut has made it my number one preference.

During my final academic year at my current college I have also been doing freelance web design and programming work for several small companies in addition to PC and laptop repair. I have bills to pay while providing income for my wife and two children. My family is a major driving force in my motivation to obtain a higher education. I can't and I won't let them down! How great is being successful if you have no one to share it with?

Undergraduate / "My love of writing - Growing as a writer": Transfer Essay for the Common App. [5]

So far Boston has been a very good experience for me;.iI t has helped me to grow as a person and broadened my horizons. Since coming here for college I have been introduced to a variety of new people and cultures., and mM y view of the world has changed. I enjoyedenjoy that Emmanuel is such a small private school, because it feltfeels comfortable,. I'm ready something bigger and thatwhich will allow me to interact with a lotmany more people.

Grade wise I have done well at Emmanuel, as my transcript should show. I believe that I can do just as wellI will be successful at UVM. I believe bB y transferring to UVM I will be introduced to many more academic opportunities, as welland cultural opportunities.I love the feel of the close community that Burlington gives, with its local shops and events.I love the close community feeling that Burlington has because of its local shops and events. UVM with its backdrop of Lake Champlain paint a beautiful picture in which I hope to grow not only as a writer, but as a person.as well.

You will one day be a great writer. It takes time and practice to become a great writer. Your style is more that of a creative writer, however for this type of essay the schools are looking for clear and concise writing. Avoid changing from present to past tense. Avoid run on sentences and extra wordiness. The schools have your transcript so do not mention it. Choose your words carefully. Nice job!
