When choosing what to learn in the university, more and more students wouldbe taught to arrange their curriculum oriented to their major. However, education is not only a processonly with pragmatic purpose, it should make individuals truly cultivated , especially for the university education. So I am in favor of the claim that universities should require their students to take a variety of courses outside of their major in order to support their future development.
To begin with, learning variant courses relevant to different areas could help college students to get a well-rounded education which would be definitely useful when they face all kinds of tasks in the future. Companies usually pay a higher evaluation on the people who are proficient in more than one skill. One reason for this is that problems in personal life or in business affairs can be different, and those cases only could be well dealt with when you have a broader scope of knowledge. Another reason for companies prefer people knowmore than their major . Those people could make more profits and be easier to create something new. For example, a person who has both knowledge of finance and computer could easily apply the knowledge of computer to the work of finance, although his/her major is finance. So universities should encouragetheir students to take a variety of courses outside their major to meet the requirement of job markets.
University education, as a entity, could not be well performed only byjust doing good in the major. In fact the knowledge seeming to be of no relationship between different areas contributes to a profound understanding of each other. Thus having a more wide scope of knowledge outside your major helps a clearer awareness of your major. Philosophy which usually thought to be a subject dealing with humanity or social issues and metaphysics has nothing to do with practical science contribute to the understanding even creation in physical science and engineering. Many great scientists in the history, like Albert Einstein or Newton, are outstanding in both philosophy principles and physical science, and in their biography they usually thanked for the inspiration brought by music, drawing or some basic rules in philosophy. So if college students want to gain significant achievements in their major field, knowledge from other subjects helps them to realize it.
Nevertheless, students who specialize one subject will have advantages over those who just dabbled in many field. Specialization means time efficiency, accuracy in production, less mistakes and lower cost. And these would definitely be an advantage when it comes to find a job for college students. Another supportive factor for a specialized education system is that it is easily to make students to focus on their interest and relevant curriculum. Usually it is boring to sit in the archaeology class for a chemistry student. And the purpose of elite education in universities needs the curriculum to be deeply profession in one area. We cannot deny that a totally irrelevant class or an uninterested course is a waste of time for college students. Therefore, universities shouldwell plan its curriculum and perform a exactly guidance.
No education system is perfect. And no one can accomplish his/her learning in limited life time. While knowledge from kinds of areas can be helpful, we should focus on our limited time in our main course.

[Revised GRE]-I-3- Educational institutions have a responsibility to dissuade students from pursuing fields of study in which they are unlikely to succeed.
The speaker says that the education system should help students to chose the fields which are suitable and interesting and in order to help them to get success .while I concede that it is really a good way to dissuade students from wasting time and to success sooner, in most cases it is just difficulty to realize.
As we know the key to accessing success is interesting and suitable. Albert Einstein and Van Gogh are
both famous on their free spirit , but just try to image how weird if Einstein go to paint and Van Gogh go to study physics. If it is really happened what we lost must be far beyond only two masters but the great science and art culture. So if we can design a education system which have the function to help students to choose their interesting and suitable subjects there are will be more ambitious young man .
However, it is very difficult to build such an education system. Because the system could not be as smart as a psychologist who have insight about human being's characteristics and could not have some magic power like the sorting hat in HARRY POTTER,and the educational resource limit the possibility of founding such education either. So in the mostly situations choosing which field to study almost depend students themselves. For instance ,Mark Zucherberg ,the founder of FACEBOOK ,who choose to give up studying psychology in Harvard and found FACEBOOK .He is the richest young man in the world now. So we can tell that the students' decision is much more useful and powerful.
Of course it will be better if we intend to design a education system not only focusing on teaching knowledge or culturing logical mind but also help students to choose the subject which they real suitable and interesting. For example ,employing some experts design the professional survey and after collecting and analyzing the results the school could provide some advices to students .By the way schools can offer more optional courses about the interact subject so student could find such matching feel by choosing different courses. But all of these are just suggestions the decision should be made by students of course .
