Graduate / 'technical solutions to mankind's needs' SOP for MS in Mechanical Engineering [3]

Thanks Ace for your suggestions.
I also thought about the occurrence of Mechanical Engineering repeatedly and will try to eliminate some of them.

Also, what do you mean by this line " "practicality thereby enabling me to fulfil my goals" - run on ". I can't get you on this.

Graduate / 'technical solutions to mankind's needs' SOP for MS in Mechanical Engineering [3]

Hello Friends, I have made this SOP for applying for MS in Mechanical Engineering. I request you to please have a look at it and help me improve this essay.

Thanks in advance.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

History of technical solutions to mankind's needs has proven the fact that knowledge and scientific growth are the most important tools for innovation. Through innovative use of Mechanical Engineering resources, I want to develop newer, more feasible solutions to existing problems and enabling these solutions to be easily accessible to the society. A Master's program in my chosen field of Mechanical Engineering with concentration in Design and Manufacturing will give me the required knowledge and inculcate in me a creative instinct combined with practicality thereby enabling me to fulfil my goals.

After a good scholastic record at school, I embarked on the most enriching years of my life which were - four years of Mechanical and Automation Engineering at AAAAA University. I put in the best of my efforts to gain knowledge and skills from this program, and did remarkably well in the assessments. My undergraduate degree has taught me that the most important contributory factor of success of any product is its ability to fit into the framework of the solution required of the problem.

During the gruelling years of my undergraduate studies, I have benefited from the breadth of AAAAA University's syllabi content that has given me a wide conceptual understanding of the core areas of my domain and a comprehensive exposure to the practicality of Mechanical Engineering. I have acquired a robust background in the subjects like Solid Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, CAD/CAM, Engineering Mechanics, Machine Design, Thermodynamics etc. I have also had an introduction to specialized areas like Automobile Engineering, Mechatronics and Advanced Methods of Manufacturing.

It was sometime during the second year that two of my classmates and I undertook a mini project on Car Suspension. What intrigued us to take on this project was the bad condition of the roads in India and for a comfortable ride a good set of suspensions is of utmost importance. During the project, we learnt about the concepts and significance of various suspension systems used in the automobiles. To determine the effectiveness of different designs, we constructed virtual models of McPherson Struts, Double Wishbone Suspension, Transverse Leaf Spring etc. and conducted several deformation and load tests in SolidWorks.

As a supplement to my studies, I undertook a two-month internship program with Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., the largest automotive producer in India. During the internship I was assigned a project in the Tool Room & Die Shop. The objective of the project was 'Time analysis and scheduling of Manufacturing of Press Die Inserts for Maruti Ritz' where I analysed the scheduling process and the time required for the different operations involved in the manufacturing of press dies along with High Pressure Die Casting, Low Pressure Die Casting and Press Die Inserts. During the project, I learned the various processes like milling, turning, jig boring, hardening etc. that are used for manufacturing press dies. While learning the whole procedure I became fully acquainted with some specialised machines like DMU 70 Universal Milling Machine, CTX alpha 300 CNC Lathe Machine and 3D Coordinate Measuring Machine etc.

During the third year, I enrolled for training as a Six Sigma - Green Belt Professional conducted by British Standard Institute in collaboration with AAAAA University. Here, I learnt about the logical methods and quality-management tools that are employed by the world industrial setup to improve the quality of process outputs by minimizing variability and eliminating the causes of defects. I have also done a six-month industrial training in the software application 'Catia' where I learned virtual prototyping of various mechanical parts, processes and their analysis.

For my final year dissertation, I ventured into the real world of fabricating a prototype of Automatic Braking System using Embedded Microcontroller. In the project I made a model of a car which could automatically apply brakes, by perceiving the distance, when any obstruction was identified on the road and the driver was not able to respond to the situation promptly. For this I automated the car by incorporating intelligence with the help of microcontroller 8051 and interfaced it with the basic structures of braking. As a result, without any human effort, the car was able to stop at a safe distance from the impediment, under different conditions.

After graduating college, I joined our family business of Internet & Technical Service Provision and Cable TV Broadcasting to keep myself updated with the latest technologies in that field. But having envisioned my long-term goal of becoming a successful technocrat in the field of design and manufacturing, it has become imperative that I pursue a career in research and higher learning. A Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering for me will be like a box of tools of the best standards that will be provided during the course of my studies.

Considering that Masters may be the last and hence the most crucial stepping stone in my career oriented education, I want to ensure that I get the most and the best out of it, primarily by getting into the best university which would help me in gaining focused and sound understanding of the manufacturing industry.

University of XXXX will provide me with an opportunity of a multidisciplinary, synergistic approach towards problem solving in engineering studies, making this university the ideal place to launch my career. Studying under renowned faculty members who are working on the research frontiers of Mechanical Engineering would be an honour. Likewise I look forward to exercising my intellectual curiosity to contributing in the avant-grade research being undertaken here. Additionally, University of XXXX has a variety of resources like xxx, yyy etc. all of which will facilitate my research work and augment my education.

I strongly believe that the amalgam of my taught courses, significant practical work and my flair for research will provide me the stasis I require for fulfilling my future endeavours. I feel that graduate study at your university will be the most logical extension of my academic pursuits and a major step towards achieving my objectives.
