Undergraduate / 'bring me the EKG machine' - one of your activities [2]
"Andrew, bring me the EKG machine. Watch the heart moniter!" "Yes sir!" Before starting, I had no idea what an EKG was or did. I learned so much from volunteering at the Murphy Medical Center. During the summer of 11th grade,I had the opportunity to volunteer there. The chance to be in a hospital setting gave me a lot of exposure to the medical environment.Throughout the 8 weeks,I was able to help by doing errands such as cleaning beds and medical equipment, transferring patients, delivering lab tests and documents, and delivering food and blankets to patients. There were times of sadness and times of gladness in the lives of patients and I felt,at times, helpless for the sick and joy with the healed.Though my time spent there was short, the patients and staff helped me learn a lot from this experience and helped me get a better perspective of the world of medicine. With the realization of the significant impact I could have by helping people in the medical field, I desire to serve more.
