You may find this task more easily accomplished if you first research prevalent literary critiques of this novel. I suggest E.S. Fussell's "Fitzgerald's Brave New World" and M. Bewley's "Scott Fitzgerald's Fable of East and West" as starting points. Note that substantial critiques were not authored for twenty years after The Great Gatsby was first published.
