Being an artist has been my passion ever since I was a little girl. In kindergarten I remember figuring out how to make different colors by mixing my finger paints and deciding then that I wanted to be an artist. Early on I was enthralled by the Japanese style of cartoon animation in shows like Pokémon, Sailor Moon, Sonic, Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Naruto. I would draw constantly. In middle school I developed an interest in video games and I quickly realized that I also wanted to create my own characters for these games. Ideas were exploding from my mind and I began to create stories for my characters of how they lived and what they did with their lives. I kept dozens of journals with original character drawing, themes, and detailed abilities and personality traits. My desire to put to paper or to computer, as is the case most often now, has never diminished. I had never had the opportunity to attend formal art classes during school, so I had to teach myself art. I took cues from artist/ creator like; Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z), Satoshi Tajiri (Pokémon), Naoko Takeuchi (Sailor moon), Masashi Kishimoto(Naruto), Naoto ƌshima(Sonic), Yuji Naka(Sonic), Hirokazu Yasuhara(Sonic). But I was really inspired by my family ,especially my grandmother, to draw and sketch. My grandmother had beautiful paintings that she had painted herself all throughout the house. She had paintings of flowers, mountain landscapes, a horse, and even of clowns. Although her style was far more classical than my tastes would allow she taught me quite a lot. She taught me to believe in myself, my ability and to reach my goals with love and devotion to my passions. By the time high school came around I decided that I wanted to graduate early so I could attend an art college. I convinced my parents to let me take courses at K12 International Academy online and then took the test for my general education diploma. At the time we were living in Florida and my plan was to immediately enroll at a large art institute in Ft. Lauderdale. I had begun to do just that but then fate would intervene and bring my family to Atlanta. WOW, I had landed right in the backyard of Savannah College for Art and Design and I couldn't think of a better place to be. I truly believe that SCAD is where I will be able to maximize my potential as a video game character designer and realize my dream to become a full time artist. This has been my heart's desire my entire life. I am looking forward to learning in an environment that won't stifle my creativity but challenge me to be better. I welcome the opportunity to learn state of the art technology from some of the most gifted professionals in the industry. I feel so blessed to have my parents' full support in my endeavor s and I know it will make them proud to say that "my daughter is an art student at SCAD".
