Undergraduate / 'Wildlife around me' - Transfer Essay for Purdue University [2]

Here is the rough draft for my transfer admissions essay to Purdue University. The topic is: How Will Purdue University help you meet your professional and personal goals?

Ever since childhood, I have always been fascinated about the world around me, most especially wildlife. My earliest memories of childhood always date back to my elementary school years, with my father and I going to the local county parks, both of us typically in search of various forms of wildlife. Although I cannot remember much of my childhood, these are the memories that seem to be forever embedded in my mind. My father loved to see my reaction to all of the animals, my favorites being the reptiles, turtles in particular. These park outings led to my father taking me to the pond near our house in the summers when it would rain. It was during this time that all of the frogs, salamanders, and snakes would come out from hiding. Seeing these animals at the various parks and in the areas around my family's home sparked an interest in me at that very young age, a spark which continues to grow even to this day. Because of the passion that I have for wildlife and natural resources, I have decided to make obtaining a degree in Wildlife Biology both a professional and personal goal of mine.

However, despite this passion, it was during high school that I feel as if I lost sight of what I wanted in my life and what I wanted to do. The first few years of my high school career were spent in a daze of laziness and non interest. Near the end of high school I had to re-evaluate what I wanted out of my life, and what I truly felt was most important. My parents had provided me with all of the tools to succeed in education, and yet I had taken it all for granted, just letting all of the opportunities pass me by. In applying to Purdue's College of Agriculture, I am attempting to correct all of the wrong choices I have made in the past concerning my education, and to hopefully be able to fully realize my dreams that I had managed to lose sight of.

Transferring to Purdue, for me, is the next step in bringing my goals to a head and to correct my mistakes. Purdue, in being a Land Grant Institution, has a great agricultural program, a program that I would be proud to be a part of. The Wildlife Biology program in particular appears to have more than enough resources, particularly in having all of requirements to meet The Wildlife Societies course requirements. The Natural Resources Summer Practicum also caught my attention right away, as it is not offered at any of the other very few schools in Indiana, that also have a wildlife biology program.

As a graduate of Purdue University, I feel that I would be able to achieve many of my professional and personal goals as stated before. Along with the goals already mentioned, I would also be able to give back to the state of Indiana, in helping with the protection of the natural resources that I loved so much as a child, for those just like me.
