Undergraduate / FSU ADMISSIONS ESSAY 2012 - leadership, learning, service, etc [NEW]
Florida State University is more than just a world-class academic institution preparing you for a future career. We are a caring community of well-rounded individuals who embrace leadership, learning, service, and global awareness. With this in mind, which of these characteristics appeal most to you, and why?
"Leadership is getting players to believe in you. Players will see right through a phony. And they can tell when you're not giving it all you've got." - Larry Bird said this to prove the true definition of a leader. Whether it be on the court or off the court, leadership is the key to achieving anything. As Larry Bird expressed, true leadership is proven through ones actions. In order to make people believe in your ideas and goals, you need to show others that you have what it takes to change things. Once that is proven, then things like service, learning, and global awareness appear.
Throughout my life, I strive to become a leader to make sure I can push others, including myself, to their best potential. I have actively participated in sports such as: basketball, softball, volleyball, and soccer. In all these experiences one has to be able to believe in themself and the person in charge. In softball, you don't just steal 1st base all the way to 3rd without looking at your coaches signs because you'll get tagged out. Also, in basketball, you don't drive into the paint with a girl a whole foot taller then you. Instead, you bring the ball out to start the play all over again and look for the open girl with the better shot opportunity. In every game or job there is a leader. Without that leader people would not know what to do or how to do it.
